Love everything but the color

This coat is nearly perfect for me. I returned two other down jackets before settling on this one, so I just might be a little picky. I wanted white but the color is more between a grayish-white and a dirty-ish off white/cream. However, the color goes well with the soft, gray interior lining. The inside fleece cuff to help reduce drafts up the arm is black. You can't see it from the outside, but from a design standpoint, I'm unsure why they didn't match the cuff to the inside lining, which is also fleece. What I love about this coat more than the North Face Metropolis Down Jacket that I returned is that this is more fitted. The other jacket made me look like the stay puff marshmallow man but this one curves just right and I LOVE the warmth. It seems warmer than the NF jacket. If the white was a little "cleaner" looking, it'd be perfect...maybe even above five stars!

I am looking at buying this jacket in white. Because I have small kids, I am wondering if this jacket is machine washable. One additional question. Does anyone know if the sleeves have an inner elastic cuff so that air doesn't travel up the end of the sleeves?

Responded on

This jacket is definitely not machine washable - the down will get saturated and take a long time to dry out and be warm again. There is a fitted fleece at the end of the sleeve that is designed to seal it off from wind and drafts.

I have this jacket and LOVE it. The label says its machine washable and it is. I washed mine in my washer at home then threw it in the dryer for 55 min with a tennis ball to keep it fluffy. Worked perfectly.

I'm step140856 and I wanted to include my own answer on here for those who are interested. My jacket came today and I am pretty much loving it. It is machine washable in cold water, but it specifically mentions to wash it in a front load machine with powdered detergent. Also, for those who are really picky, the fleece sleeve is black, where the rest of the interior lining is a gray colored fleece. Although the color is not exactly what I wanted (I wanted a cleaner white), the fit and warmth are fabulous, so I'm keeping it!

would it be good for vancouver, BC? do i need waterproof vs. water resistant for walking around in the rain?

Best Answer Responded on

This would be a Great coat for Vancouver, Goose down is warmer than synthetic down. For walking around in light rain or snow this coat is fine with the DWR water resistant coating. However I don't recommend walking around in downpours for long. Use an umbrella if you can. If the down gets wet it takes a long time to dry.

Wonderful Coat

After spending a weekend in Chicago when it was a windchill below zero, I came home and immediately looked online for a down coat. When I saw this coat, I knew it was the perfect one! I love the lines- very slimming! I love the fur- very pretty! And, the best thing is that it is so warm! I know I would have enjoyed my weekend a lot more if I had had this wonderful coat on!

super coat

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This coat fits true to size. I am 5'4", got a small according to my measurements and size chart and could not be happier! So far the coldest I wore it was -5 F, with the hood up I had only one long sleeve shirt underneath and was toasty. Yesterday the wind was horrendous, 5 F, and with my high boots only my knees were chilly. I especially love the fleece lined torso. I have had my coat for 2 winters now ad love it so much I got one for my mother in law who lives in Moscow!
P.S. It is also super light. I do agree that it feels like you are walking around in your favorite sleeping bag. However, it does look tailored.

I gave it as a gift, and it the recipient loved it! It is very warm and light. Size fits well (bought a medium). The only thing is, it would be nice to have buttons and a zipper. Thanks Backcountry!

Gifted, but she digs

After purchasing my coat, I?ll never view winter the same again. I literally walk naked around town and on the hill under this thing. I?m almost too warm in nearly sub-zero temperatures. Only problem is I have no use for my sleeping bag anymore?I just sleep in this inferno.

Finally found a warm stylish coat

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I was looking for a hooded down coat that flatters and has clean enough lines to wear to work in the coldest of days. This is it. It is true to size, maybe runs a tad small with layers, has a fleece lining in the upper half area and inside the pockets to really keep you warm, resists the wind and rain, the down insulates really nicely, it is long enough, the neck is insulated, too, and has fleece lining to prevent chafing from the zipper. A couple of minor complaints: the zipper sticks a bit, but it seems to be getting better with use, I wish the color was a deeper black, and that the coat had snap buttons in addition to the zipper so you can just close part of it when you are in a hurry and can't fiddle with the zipper. But these are minor compared to all the positives -- I am very happy (and warm).

Bought this for my 17 year old who is going off to college next year . She loves it. The coat has a cozy fleece inside to which she loves. It is a little bit longer than the north face and Mountain Hardwear, but she is 5'9" so it is perfect for her.

Was wondering if the maroon is really more of a brown? It doesn't look to have much red in it, but online photos are always hard to tell.

Marmot best choice

I researched several jackets and ended up with this one..I LOVE it! I wanted a super warm 3/4 length coat with a fur trim hood..this was the BEST choice. I am 5'5" and 120 and bought a medium...it is a tad big but I like it that way! Super cute styling too!!!

Fantastic Coat

I recently moved to Minnesota and so my in-laws decided to get me a parka for Christmas. I read tons of reviews on many different coats but this one was by far the best I found for the price and the style I wanted. I wear it all the time! It's light and flattering but cozy! I love the extra cuff inside the sleeves so no cold air gets in, plus the top portion inside is lined with a fleece material that makes it extra warm around your core. Also I love the inside pocket, perfect for my phone and the side pockets wit h zippers are easy to open and close but keep a sleek line of the coat. Get it you won't regret it!

Great Coat!

I love my marmot coat. This is the first marmot I have ever owned and it won't be the last. It keeps me warm when I am out in the cold for extended periods of time while walking my dogs yet perfect for wearing unzipped while shopping. While I usual wear a large in coats I bought this item as X-Large based on the reviews of others. I am very glad I did as it fits great.

should I order the small or medium if I want to layer a sweater under it? thanks :-)

Responded on

I'd get the small. For reference, I have a small and am a 32/34c and 5'7" and the small fits and accommodates a sweater.

hello...I am 5.5", 135lbs, 34b/c chest. Soundsl like I should order a medium???

Responded on

I'm the same height and weight as you, but with a smaller bust (A/B) and the small is perfect for me. However, Marmot's coats are known to run narrow through the chest, so I think you may need to size up to avoid being overly constricted there. That said, it seemed to me that the medium was about an inch and a half longer in the body as well as significantly longer and bulkier through the sleeves -- too much so for my frame. The medium size felt like I was swimming in it, and I think it might get annoying to walk around in, because the bottom of the coat was hitting exactly at the bend of my knee. But depending on how long- or short-waisted you are, you may not have that issue. Sorry not to have a more definitive answer, but I hope this helps some.

I'm thinking of getting this jacket for a trip to NYC in early January but I'm from Australia so don't really have a clue how cold it can be. Would this jacket be suitable or would I be better off with something shorter?

Responded on

This would be perfect for NYC in January. I'm from a different part of NY but the weather is pretty much the same...cold. Depending on the type of winter we get this year January could be anywhere from 10 degrees (Fahrenheit) to 45 degrees (Fahrenheit) with snow and wind pretty common. This jacket would probably be a perfect match for you, keeping you warm and keeping the wind and snow off you lower back and butt. I'd check some more reviews before you settle on it, but I hope I was of some help!

She Loves it!

I bought this jack for my girlfriend and she loves it. She is extremely happy and I think I'm going to be purchasing a Marmot jacket for myself!

Warm in Buffalo

I wavered on this purchase for about a month, I wanted "white", and Moonstruck is not white, but all the other features finally swayed my decision and I couldn't be happier. This winter did not give this coat a true test as our temps have been way above average and we have virtually no snow. It is now late Feburary and sub zero temps with Lake effect snow seems out of the question. I will have many more winters to give it a true test, and I know it will be just as I expected. Does run a bit small so order up a size.

5 5

great coat-sizing runs small

I am 5'9" and a size 6-8 (athletic build). I usually wear a medium. I read several other reviews and ordered a Large. So glad I did as I am not disappointed at all in how it fits. I have just enough room to wear a heavier sweater or second layer underneath without it feeling too tight and have plenty of room to move through the shoulders. It is a little bit big in the waist area, but I would rather that than it be too tight in the shoulders. Side note: I tried on the North Face Arctic 2 Parka in the store and could barely breathe in the Medium yet was swimming in the large...not for me. So glad I purchased the Marmot coat! Sleeve length is perfect and the coat goes down to my knees, which is exactly what I had wanted. Best part of all, the coat is incredibly cozy/warm and does not feel too bulky. I am as happy as a clam in my new winter coat!

Responded on

I feel the same as you on all the coats u commented on, I am 5'9.5" 150lbs and athletic build as well, but I went with the medium because the large waist was huge on me but now the shoulders and chest are tight with just 1 layer under. Also wish the arms were 2"longer and the length is above my knees about 3"(would like length to be a tad below my knees. Love this coat tho wish it came in other colors, I bought the light tan.
