Nice quality and warm

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I'm a female that usually wears a M. I ordered this men's jacket in a small and I love the way it fits and moves with my body. I have taken a few jogs wearing this jacket and it is really warm considering how thin and lightweight it is. I wanted something to wear for active outdoor use and also just a rocky mountain summertime evening jacket. It works well for both. If you are looking for a jacket for running, it's a bit warm. Otherwise, great purchase!

I wore this on a all day hike no problems... so my question is for someone who has worn this a lot and noticed the durability of the 20d pertex. seems great so far to me

Niceley thought out!

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs small

I did not buy it although I wanted to. It just did not fit. I'm more a S. It's hood functioned better for me than: Rab's or Eider's. It's zippers, etc were very nice. It would've made the perfect overall jacket for me except for the fit.

I would say that the small in Mtn Hardware (ghost) and Marmot run about the same in size. The small Rab and Patagonia (down) are a bit roomier. And the Eider (only tried M) seem to be a bit bigger than Rab. I would guess Eider small would be the same as Marmot.

warm and light

so.. I love marmot gear, and im piling it all up!
this jacket is the layering piece ive been looking for... light, warm, compressible and ATHLETIC FIT. I am 6'1 175 lbs and the large is like a body glove. perfect for under a shell if its cold and rainy( smoky mtns= always). light enough to wear out to a cool fall day.
it would get 5 stars if I have worn it through serious weather yet.
super slick layering piece.. crazy light for the price- but marmot quality is there for sure!

How warm is this jacket? How does this compare with something like a 750 down fill? like the Mammut broad peak hoody? Which would be warmer and what conditions would you choose the Isotherm?

Best Answer Responded on

The Marmot Isotherm Hooded Insulated Jacket is going to differ considerably from the Mammut Broad Peak Hoody both in terms of construction and best intended use. The Broad Peak for example employs 750 fill down and is best used as a layering piece under a waterproof shell but can be worn solo for activities like alpine climbing. The Marmot Isotherm on the other hand employs Polartec Alpha insulation, which means it will not have quite as much warmth as the Broad Peak but will be much more adept at high output and moist weather activities like skiing, hiking, and ice climbing. The Polartec Alpha insulation will keep you warm but will also continue insulating even when wet, while the DriClime mesh lining will work to move moisture away from the body and out of the jacket where it can be evaporated away. The Angel Wing Movement will allow you to swing you arms for solid ice axe placements without exposing your mid-section to the elements. Overall an excellent jacket, though if you are looking for closer comparisons I would suggest looking at the Arc'Teryx Atom LT/SV.

Is this a good jacket to use as a top layer? I'm going snowboarding in Cali this Christmas and I'm looking for a jacket to use as a top layer, with a fleece and undershirt underneath.

Responded on

This jacket would be a good option, however it is not as waterproof as some other options out there for snowboarding. The jacket is slightly insulated as well to keep you nice and warm.

I'm looking Marmot Baffin Hoody Jacket - Men's. Normally manufacturer gives in numbers impermeability, breathability and quantity of layers. May I find these data for your products on your site ?

Responded on

Those specs you are describing are for waterproof/breathable jackets which this piece is not. They could run those test to get that number, but since they are not trying to market this jacket with those functions they are not going to bother running these tests. The Pertex Quantum fabric is however windproof and is air permeable to 1.0cc.
