Impulse Jacket - Men's

Marmot made the Men's Impulse Jacket at a low weight of only 15 ounces and still packed it with features for backpacking and climbing. Waterproof breathable PreCip material provides total water protection. Marmot made the Impulse Jacket's hood removable, and it also rolls into the collar for times when you don't need it but don't want it in your pack. This storm jacket also packs small to take up little pack space when the sun shines bright.

Bottom Line: Keep the features and lose the weight with the Marmot Impulse Jacket.

Jury's out, but outlook isn't good

So I got this rain jacket on a crazy sale, and was really excited about it. The first few times I used it, it shed water like no one's business, but now it's been only 2 months of non-frequent use (probably less than 10 times max.) and the sleeves and chest soak through within 10 minutes of steady rain. I know I need to re-DWR it, but I feel like it should've lasted a little longer. The jacket itself looks nice (got the stellar blue color) and it's light enough too. But my other quip would be the stiff, fleece collar and fleece wrist cuffs. The collar doesn't really stay down, but that's admittedly a personal preference. The wrist cuff's get wet, and then your wrists get wet and cold. I'm not sure if I'm sending it back yet, but figured I'd share my thoughts.

A great packable shell

I have had the Impulse Jacket for a couple of months now -- through the Fall season -- and it has proved itself to me as a great waterproof/windproof, packable shell for rapidly changing weather conditions. I use it primarily for day hiking in the New England area; it's lightweight and fitted to go over a medium insulating layer or can be used alone in milder temps. It's well-made, super lightweight and packs down to almost nothing -- I highly recommend it.

Great shell

Amazing buy. I used it during a week in the Smokey Mountains. It fits great and I was able to wear it over a Columbia fleece. It was below 32 degrees at night and it definitely kept me warm and dry. I've even worn it around campus walking to class in the rain. It's been comfortable up to about 50 degrees, then I started getting a bit warm and needed to use the vents. So far so good!

Awesome shell

Great jacket at a great price. Does a great job keeping the rain and wind out, and is extremely breathable. The pit zips and detachable hood are also nice touches. Athletic fit that was true to size. My only complaint is the hood string clamps are a bit weird, but nothing I couldn't get used to.

Good stuff

Does a great job of keeping the water out. Wanted to give it 4.5 stars only because the hood is massive and the hood elastic does funny things when you tighten it. But rounding up doesn't hurt. Otherwise, packs well, vents well for a jacket this price, and looks good doing it.
