Not too shabby, but a few observations

  • Familiarity:I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

OK, so I got this pack after seeing it in a list/article somewhere, doing a little research, and finding it on sale. I was really excited to get it in the mail and I was happy with my initial impressions during the unboxing. I just used it on an actual trip for the first time (hiking in Guadalupe Mountains NP for three days), here's what I have found :

Pros:
-I love the hidden rain cover, it's part of the reason I bought it and I used it this weekend.
-The three zippers design which allows you to access the lower part of the pack off-shoulder without removing it is awesome.
-Lots of pockets/space for assorted essential minutiae.

Cons:
-I read this in another review and also found it to be annoying; while the zipper design is awesome, the zipper placement of the main compartment is such that the pack is hard to close if it's full (that said, I do sometimes over pack my packs).
-The part of the chest strap that holds the end of your hydration bladders drinking tube is on the side opposite of the packs hydration port, which got annoying as I would have to remove my drinking tube from the chest strap any time I wanted to take my pack off. I may be able to fix this by switching the chest strap attachments and will try that soon.

Conclusion:
I need to take it out some more, but so far I'm pretty happy with it. If you can get it on sale I'd say it's worth the money.

Surprise in the zipper placement

  • Familiarity:I returned this product before using it

I loved many things about this pack. The color, the size, the pocket placement. However, I was surprised by where the main zipper was - it was following closely the edge of the back panel, so at first I did not see it at all. Then, when the pack was test loaded, the zipper turned out to be hard to close, since it was so close to the edge and would not move easily. I also found the back panel uncomfortably stiff. It has a plastic insert inside, not really an inner frame, but a sheet of plastic, that just did not conform to the shape of the back. I am returning it.
