Get backcountry-worthy protection while you cruise around town with the Marmot Women’s Highland Rain Jacket. The long length adds protection when you’re dressed to the nines, and the DriClime-lined collar and chin add a comfortable touch. Marmot also gave the Highland a feminine cut to ensure you’ll look good even when it’s raining.

Bottom Line: Worthy of the mountains, designed for the streets.

how does this fit compared to Destination? are the sizes comparable? reviews for Destination says it's almost a size too big, and someone for Highland says it's size too small. I've tried other Marmot clothing and tend to find they're size too small. Highland vs Destination for fitting. thanks.

great jacket... except for the velcro

By:
December 9, 2010

I loved this jacket for many months, until I noticed every time I left it unzipped, the velcro stuck onto my left sleeve. And on the collar, the velcro stuck onto my left shoulder. The velcro has now destroyed the fabric on my left sleeve and shoulder! If the jacket had a protective flap covering it, it would prevent this issue. It might cost a little more, but I would get more than 10 months wear from it before it's destroyed. A definite design flaw.

Other than the velcro, the length is great, the colour (turtle dove) is great (and washes clean), and the warmth and fit are great. I'm about 5'4" and 120 lbs and got an XS. It fits over both my casual and work clothes and looks sharp.

If they fix the velcro, I would highly recommend it.

Is this jacket breathable? If so, to what extent? (e.g. would the breathability work for hiking & canoeing?)

Yes, the Highland is a waterproof/breathable jacket. It uses Marmot's new Membrain Strata fabric which is 20,000 mm waterproof and 20,000 g/24hrs breathable. This is a step up in breathability from Marmot's Precip fabric and is quite close in breathability to Gore-Tex. The Highland is intended as a city and travel rain jacket, but would work fine for hiking and canoeing if you are looking for full coverage.

The Highland Jacket is an unlined jacket and as such is a bit lighter and more compact-able than the Destination, which has a mesh lining and more interior pockets (1 zip interior pocket for the Highland and 1 zip interior pocket, 1 document pocket and 1 hood pocket for the Destination) Also, the Destination's hood zips off and stashes inside, while the Highland's hood rolls into the collar. Both jacket use Marmot's Membrian fabric.

Love it!

ok, forget about comparing this to another jacket. So glad I got it. I buy online all the time, and I find pictures are often misleading and when I get the actual product they never quite live up to what the picture looks like or how they describe it.

Not this jacket. It's absolutely gorgeous! I got the turtle dove, and it's refreshingly light from all the dark colours you see everywhere. It's very figure flattering and I often dress it up with knee-high boots. Can be used for more "rugged" activities like hiking, too. Very versatile and packable.

I'm 5'4"/112lbs and got size small based on other reviews. Leaves enough room to layer but still gives me shape (not boxy at all!)

My only concern is keeping the light colour free of dirt and markings. Fingers crossed!

Love it!

It's not insulated, so it won't keep you warm that way. It'll keep you warm as an extra layer and by breaking the wind and keeping you dry though...

My wife is very impressed with her rain "coat". The additional length is just what she was looking for as opposed to jacket length. It is exceptionally light and easily folds/rolls up to put in her backppack, becides being very light weight. She is very happy, so I guess I made the right gift choice...for a change:-)

The length is about 10" longer than a typical rain jacket according to the center back length measurement here.
Maybe try on a normal sized jacket for you and see if this comes close?
My guess is it will still be a little above the knees for you.
