Description

Dress wisely.

Coated with DWR and packed with premium down, the Marmot Men’s Guides Down Vest is a powerful ally in the struggle with low temperatures and extreme environments. Zippered handwarmer pockets provide temporary relief from biting winds if you’ve forgotten your gloves while a DriClime lined chin kicks moisture out and prevents uncomfortable chafing. The Guides down vest is easily compressed under an outer shell when nature decides to unleash its frustration on you.

Vest is thick and probably the warmest of all down vests offered on backcountry when I searched. When I selected this vest I ordered a Patagonia Sweater Vest, the Marmot Zeus, and the North Face Aconcagua this one was by far the thickest/warmest but also the easiest to compact. The Patagonia Sweater Vest packs down smaller but is much less robust with a thinner outer material. The Zeus and Aconcagua do not come with the ability to pack them into one of their own pockets.
The Marmot Guides Down vest has a very sturdy exterior and it has a the ability to fold up into its own breast pocket for packing purposes. The pockets are fleece lined as well as the collar which is a nice touch. I found my vest to be very true to color from the website. I am 6"4" 230lbs and found the Large to fit just perfect.
This vest has one downside- it has a significant amount of extra material around the belly. It could definitely accommodate a very round gut. My recommendation would be to order one size lower than you usually do. I downsized to a LG versus my usual XL and am very happy with the result.

I am 5'8" 140lbs... the small fits very well. Extremely warm! It is a bit bulky, but it packs down easily to stow in a backpack. Very happy with my purchase.

I'm 5'6" 165lbs and the medium fit nicely. It was a little bulkier than I expected but does a great job at keeping the core warm.

I love every thing about this vest, it is the kind for sure. Careful with the size when considering it because it runs big through the belly and a little long. Great for over a fleece or flannel or layered under a shell. I am 5'11" 180lbs and I went with the large. If your looking for form fitting or something to wear with a tee shirt I would go with something else.

My wife says I look like a target in the vest. I don't care cause it is warm and colorful.
