Versatility is the Gorge's middle name.

The Men's Gorge Component Jacket from Marmot is here to make your winter clothing choices easy. It utilizes a classic 3-in-1 design, with a waterproof outer shell and insulated inner jacket, letting you fine tune your layering in a snap so you can handle any winter weather. The outer jacket is made from rugged nylon that's been laminated with Marmot's waterproof breathable MemBrain 2L membrane and finished with fully taped seams, so you'll stay dry as a desert in soggy winter storms. The zip-out nylon inner jacket is treated with a water-repellent DWR coating and stuffed with Thermal R synthetic insulation, so it will keep you warm whether you wear it under the shell or on its own.

Underarm zip vents in the shell help you air things out if you end up hiking for your powder, and a zip-off powder skirt lets you cut down on bulk if you're not seeing any big storms in the forecast. Of course, Marmot cut the Gorge with its famous Angel-Wing ergonomic movement, so you can lift your arms without exposing your waist to the elements and included a series of external and internal pockets on both the shell and liner, so you'll be more prepared than a doomsday survivalist when the winter weather hits the fan.

Burly in all senses of the word

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I've used this jacket about five times as a ski jacket. Its very warm and was dry. For all intents and purposes, my only intended use for the Gorge Jacket was as a ski jacket.

My first use was a rainy day skiing in the PNW; I cannot emphasize the word rainy. The Gorge was beading water all day! I was pretty much too warm and had to ditch a layer.
Its been very toasty in 20 degree windy days also. I've always been viewed tri-climate jackets as kitschy, however, built in layering is nice when you aren't doing a technical ascent needing the lightest, most weatherproof gear.

This jacket is warm, versatile, has lots of pockets, and pit zips.

The only downside to this jacket is its weight . In hindsight, I should have bought a down insulated tri-climate. Weighing in at almost 3 lbs this jacket will not be going up on technical ascents any time soon.

My only design gripe is I wish there was a closure at the neck to link the liner and shell jacket together!

    Great all-around jacket

I was looking for a jacket that really is 3 in 1. This jacket delivers. The puffy liner is great in all temps that I've worn it in, down into the 20's. I got the extra large. I was between the XL and L, but I wouldn't want the liner to be any smaller. The outer shell is large, comfortable and loaded with features. Plenty big, much bigger than the liner. I wore it alone on a wet chilly hike on Black Friday and it performed well. Reason I took off a star was by the end, it seemed to be a bit damp on the inside around the front pocket zips. Nothing major, but the hike was only an hour maybe a bit more. Together, the jacket is incredible. Super warm, large coverage. First ski trip will be this weekend. Green color is also unique, but not too in your face. Overall, highly recommend.

    Great all-around jacket
