The Marmot Women’s Fjell Jacket uses a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex Pro shell to keep out the elements when you’re backpacking in Iceland, a removable powder skirt comes in handy for poaching freshies in Utah, and Angel-Wing Movement makes for comfortable alpine climbs. Marmot made this jacket to fit over a fleece or softshell but still gave it a women’s-specific cut so the Fjell won’t look boxy. The laminated wire brim on the hood helps deflect moisture while pitzips cool your core on warm days. Pack pockets on the front mean you can get to small items without undoing your waist-belt or harness.
Hey, I'm looking for a jacket to take down to central/south america where I will be doing lots of trekking. Do you think this would be a good jacket to keep out the rain down and be breathable in the cloud forest but also warm enough to hike high in the andes (with fleece underneath)?
This would work, although you might find the Gore-Tex Pro to be a little heavier than you need in the hotter/humid part of your trip. There's a jacket called the Rab Women's Latok Alpine (item# RAB 0006) that will suit your needs in both the rain forest and the mountains perfectly. I own the men's version, and have been really happy with it. The 3L eVent fabric keeps you totally dry, blocks wind, and breaths extremely well. It's also currently on sale , and is going to save you between $200-250 over this one...enough for lots of souvenirs and tamales.
I had been looking at this jacket for months. Finally got it, and I'm not that impressed.
I took it to go snowboarding on a really really chilly day (15F, windchill 3F) and i got a little cold. I was wearing an 800down sweater/jacket underneath and still didn't make it 100%. On a positive side though, I wore it to walk to school on a POrtland rainy day and it performed well. Water drops fell right off the jacket, and I was able to handle a 40ishF weather with only a fairly thin base layer. I had to keep on moving though.
Size-wise: I had originally ordered a Small and the sleeves were 3 inches longer than what I needed it to be. I'm only a 5.3" and 125, mmmhh yeahh ... In addition, the powder skirt was a little lose on me. So, if you are tall, have long arms, and wider hips it'll work great for you. I also ordered and XS and the fit was great. I really liked it. However, there was no way I was gonna be able to fit a down sweater underneath and be able to move comfortably. Gotta compromise somewhere I guess. So, kept the SMALL cause I want it for mountaineering and I need layers undernetah.

Well, I wouldn't call it my warmest jacket, since it's not insulated. And I'm not sure I'd call it my lightest either, since I have a lighter jacket that I carry for "just in case" in the summer. But this is definitely my most waterproof and breathable and *bombproof* jacket. This is the one I take ski touring so I know I'll stay dry. This is the one I take hiking when there's dark grey clouds overhead, and this is the one I take backpacking if the forecast isn't just straight sunshines. This is the jacket I trust to keep me dry.
This Jacket is full waterproof, but is not very warm. The goretex pro shell is very light but is not as good as warm as the goretex softshell. I have a TNF jacket and is warmer. Anyway the construction of the Jacket is very good. We will try it in a volcano and see what happend.
This is a shell, not intended for insulation. i have the Troll, the mens equivalent, and its great, stops all water snow or wind. For best results you have to layer up underneith (depending on the temps). A softshell is warmer, i have two myself, but they will not keep out the weather aswell as a goretex shell will.
Hi Amanda. This jacket will repel Vancouver rain and stop Winnipeg wind, but it's not insulated. You'll need something underneath to protect you from Edmonton cold.
