The best rain jacket I ever owned

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

With rain storms that we are having, I was so lucky to get it. It is stylish, breathable and totally waterproof. It was a tad big but with a sweater it was perfect.

Beautiful jacket but odd material

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: xl

This jacket is a gorgeous color and fit very nice. However, I am not a fan of the material. It reminds me of old windbreaker track suits. I did not enjoy the feel of the material so I returned it without using it.

City Chic with Trail Technology

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size
  • Size Bought: large

I love this jacket so far. The trench style is nicer to be able to wear to work but also has amazing rain protection. I tried it out during a outdoor party that ended up being quite rainy yet I stayed very dry and comfortable. I have larger hips so the A line cut flatters my shape with out being too tight in the hips. I typically have to order up a size in longer jackets, but I was able to order my normal size in this jacket. It fits true to size aside from being slightly flared at the hip. It has a double zipper and zipper hand pockets. I also really like the added details in the cuff snaps and hood pulls. Only con I have so far is I wish there was an inner media pocket of some sort. But for the sale price and $15 credit I got from BackCountry it is well worth the price.

Sad it didn't fit quite right!

It's true to size, maybe a bit to the larger side, but it didn't fit me quite right anyhow. The A-line cut was not for me, as it flares out a bit too much at the hips. As someone who is 5'4, the waist hit a little low and thus, slides up and puffs the upper portion of the jacket out, making it look frumpy and not fitted. I love the cuff button accents and the hood is definitely big enough. Sad it didn't fit quite right. I also wish it had buttons instead of just a zipper for lighter weather!

Great city-to-country jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I purchased the Elan in black for a recent trip overseas. My activities on this journey included professional activities in a very urbane, buttoned-down setting, as well as some hiking and walking in the countryside -- all in a chilly, very windy and intermittently rainy season.

I didn't want to carry multiple jackets, and this one proved nearly perfect all around. It looked trim and tailored in the conference hall, not like a hiking shell (the shiny black metal snaps at the wrists are a nice touch in this regard). Outdoors, it blocked the rain completely, and the wind as well as any uninsulated polyester shell could hope to do.

I sized up so that it was easy to layer warm garments underneath and still have the jacket fit around my hips (always problematic with technical clothing).

Particular pros: Top down/bottom up zipper. Breathed well despite not having any vents, lining or pit zips. Hand warmer pockets are inset rather than patch-style, maintaining a neat appearance. A-line cut.

Particular con: Only two pockets. For the original price point, and given that the style is casual/city oriented, a Napoleon pocket for a transit pass, as well as an interior zippered pocket to secure cash, ID, and keys, ought to have been part of the design IMHO.

Still and all, I'm happy with the purchase and the performance.
