Poor Fit

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

I'm wondering if I got the same jacket because this jacket fit terribly. I ordered a small, I'm 5'8 and 125lbs. I was swimming in this jacket, it looked horrible. There was no feminine cut just bagginess. Prior to trying it on though, I was impressed with the look and style. I would have considered returning for an XS but it really was that big and Backcountry doesn't offer free returns.

worth it

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

I am 5'2", 110-115 lbs 36B and the XS fits nicely - roomy enough to fit a fleece or sweater under but not terribly baggy alone. It comes almost to my knees Like most of my marmot things, this jacket is well made and had superb detail. It has a brushed inner layer on the collar so that it doesn't irritate your skin. all the seams are covered or taped - including the pockets, which have a flap and a zipper on the outer pockets. there are also inner pockets - one zip close and one with tab closure. This is lined with a silky polyester, but the lining is very tightly and well sewn in, so there is no bunching and it helps to slide on over clothes. This is a lighter weight jacket - which is what I was looking for - for spring and fall - it will certainly block the wind and rain, but not the cold, although if you layer it works for almost all but the coldest weather. It is not as sleek and stylish as my merrel geraldine jacket, but it doesn't look like tech gear and is suitable for all but the most dressy occasions. The only downside is that according to the measurements given it should have come slightly below my knees, which is what I was looking for.

From Downtown to the Trail - Perfection

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Marmot's done it again - this time without the velcro problem. Marmot is one of the few manufacturers who use the two-way zipper - perfect for keeping the upper body warm but to cool off during a hike. Like that the hood is removable. Pockets strategically located. Length is great for the commute. Functionality and form.

How is the sizing of this jacket? I am 5'7 and 135lbs. I don't like it when jackets are too big and I wonder if I should get it in XS or S?

Responded on

There is a sizing chart below the price. They are usually pretty accurate.

I'd really consider trying it on. I'm similar h/w, and I thought the M was a bit snug.

I'm 5'6, 100lbs and got a S. Fits nicely with room for layers without losing the feminine cut.

if you want to wear with with only the lightest long sleeve shirt, XS. Anything more than that and I find I can't move my shoulders very comfortably, even driving. If you want it mostly to layer, then S. I am 5.2 and about 115. XS looks nicer though

Just What I Was Looking For

I purchased the Destination raincoat in navy and liked it so much I am ordering another one in black. I walk to work every day in rainy Portland Oregon and need a waterproof rain coat that goes to my knees. The length of this one is great. The hood is deep and shelters my face. It is very good looking and well constructed. I love the soft fleece at the neck. The zipper really works well. There is no velcro to snag on. This is an all season coat, so I wear a fleece jacket under it in really cold weather and a shawl around my shoulders and neck most of the time. In spring and summer, I won't wear anything under it. I highly recommend this coat. It is pricey, but worth the price

"In spring and summer, I won't wear anything under it."

Gotta say, I loved that comment, but doesn't that make you a potential flasher?

Hi, I'm lookinng for a coldweather raincoat for my wife, which hasnt been easy, We live outside of Seattle and spend a lot of time outside in the cold rain watching our kids play soccer in the fall and winter. How do you think this coat would do? I am guess your weather is similar to Seattle. Staying warm and dry in the constant drizzle for over an hour would make her very happy. Thanks for your opinion.

The jacket is windproof and waterproof but not insulated. Some sort of insulation like a fleece or down sweater is needed for truly cold weather, otherwise the polyester lining won't do much for you. The windproofing makes it significantly warmer over a fleece than a fleece on its own though.
