Description

A featherweight fortress against foul weather.

The lightweight, super-packable, and totally waterproof Marmot Crystalline Jacket repels water so effectively, it's kind of like a wearable umbrella. The Crystalline packs into its own pocket and takes up almost zero space in your pack, yet gets the job done when the weather turns nasty. Marmot's proprietary Angel-Wing Movement arms prevent your jacket from riding up during rigorous activity, and the adjustable hem and hood let you batten down the hatches in a flash.

hi, is this material durable enough to wear while carrying a heavy 50 litre pack for a 3 day hike? I have seen the reinforced super mica version which looks better for this purpose but I haven't seen a womens version. thanks.

Ultra Light

I bought this for my wife and she loves it. Ultra light and very breathable. She usually wear M but L fit great except the arms are a bit too long. No pit zip.

1. Would a heavy photo backpack fit comfortable over this jacket
2. How many pockets are there ?
I am needing it for traveling to Ireland ( lots of rain there) need a rain proof jacket so I can go out photography ing the rain. Accessible pockets for photo accessories are important

this would be a great jacket under a backpack due to its minimalist design and ultralight fabric, however due to the minimalist design, it has just two pockets to reduce weight. it was really designed as shell jacket for backpackers. you might check out non-ultralite rain shells since they tend to have pit zips and more pockets. cheers

Super light

I usually wear an XS, but got a S to fit over warmer layers and it´s a good fit. I love everything about it. It has pockets, a hood, and it´s super light and great for hiking, which is what I use it for. Once moving, I´m quite warm, too. The only thing that would make it better would be a pocket it can fold into.

Really like this jacket!

This is a very lightweight jacket. It is larger through the bust and smaller through the waist than I expected, but overall a pretty god fit. I like the color (Lithium), it is more gray than white and because it is so lightweight - slightly see-through. But, what I love is that it is totally waterproof. I wore this during a major snowfall over some heavier base layers during a run and stayed completely dry. Since then, I have worn it in warmer weather and it is not as breathable as Gore-Tex. If I were concerned about not getting wet in warmer weather I would invest in a Gore-Tex jacket, but this serves well for what I need, which is running in wet, cool weather. I also like how it packs down so small in my bag, leaving room for other stuff. I can take it with me all the time in case I need it!

I love it for hiking

I bought it after the last hike I did in the rain, and I've only experienced light rain since, and it did great. i love that it is light weight, so I didn't get too hot. Also, that it packs up so small for fitting in the backpack. The zippers are all coated. I wear XL, and I ordered an XL, and I wasn't sure it would fit, but it did. It actually looks good that it's a trim fit. I don't know about other rain jackets, but it says to wash with powdered detergent rather than liquid. That was the only surprise.

Hi,
Does the jacket make your clothes damp underneath while walking?

Best Answer Responded on

You are basically asking how breathable this jacket is. Based on the Tech Specs, the Membrain shell has the same breathability rating as Gore-Tex which is pretty good. That said and done, I find Gore-Tex is great when used in colder environments, but jackets made of eVent are much better when it is warmer or more humid. If you are looking for a lightweight jacket to bring along in case you get stuck in a rain shower, then this jacket will be fine. If you know you are going to be spending a lot of time in the rain, then I would personally recommend looking for something like this that has pit zips.

Is this jacket breathable enough for a runner on a fairly
hard run?? I overheat easily but need something for those
miserably rainy mornings....

Responded on

I've used the men's version of this jacket on many rainy runs and found that it breathes quite well for a fully waterproof jacket.

Marmot says this jacket is meant to fold into its pocket. How????

Responded on

Just turn the left pocket inside out and stuff the jacket into it. There is a loop inside the pocket if you want to clip the stuffed jacket to something and a double zipper slider so you can zip the pocket closed.

So I normally buy all black outerwear to hide dirt/wear better. How fast do you think these colors (especially white) will get irretrievably dirty? (i.e., does the nylon resist dirt ok.

My wife has the Lithium color and after 9 months of trail running, climbing, hiking, 2 river trips and a week long rainy backpacking trip to the Escalante, it's pretty much stain and dirt free.

does this jacket fit like the precip? or is it a slimmer fit? would you recommend going a size up?

Responded on

It's 1.25" shorter and a skosh slimmer fit but you shouldn't need to size up. Jackets are fit based on use and the Crystalline is more atheltically fit than the Precip but intended to fit the same body appropriately.

Responded on

i noticed the sleeves on the xs crystalline are significantly shorter than the xs precip so i went with a size up and got the crystalline in a small instead

Anyone know if this jacket would be suitable for rain in a humid hot country... specifically Thailand in November?

Best Answer Responded on

Yes, it's completely waterproof and highly breathable so it should work great. Very packable so good for travel also.

What is the weight on this jacket? It seems to be a big secret...

Marmot website doesn't list it in the specs, but in the "press" section, there are 2 articles that peg it at 6 oz (170 g) and one at 6.5 oz (185 g).

Responded on

Women's small weighs 6.1 oz. on my scale.
