A tough convertible pant that transforms into a great summer hiking short.

Summer treks are tricky; the weather changes constantly as you gain or lose elevation. Since you can't change every time the temperature does, Marmot created the Cruz Convertible Pant so you can be wearing pants or shorts after a quick zip. Using a recycled nylon fabric with a water-repellent coating, this breathable, quick-drying pant keeps dewy underbrush from soaking your socks, but converts into a short with a 10-inch inseam to battle the heat of the valley.
  • Cuff zips allow you to remove the pant legs without taking off your boots
  • Gusseted crotch enables greater movements for climbing or scrambling
  • The UPF 50 fabric blocks out the UV rays while you rest on the sun-baked rocks and chow on some tuna
  • A soft tricot inner waistband provides comfort while wearing your pack's waist belt
  • A Blue Sign approved fabric and Marmot Upcycle product, which means this short uses reused and discarded materials to reduce waste and carbon emissions

How thick are these pants? Most of the convertible pants I have seen are really thin and seem like they would be better for the desert

Responded on

These pants are quite thin. If you're looking for a thicker material and a superior product (in my opinion), look at Mountain Khaki's Granite Creek Convertable pants.

Hi there, just wondering if someone can clarify the inseam length for these pants. The manufacturers sizing guide lists the reg inseam length for size 28 - 30 pants as 29.5", however on the website here it's stated all reg pants have a 32" inseam. Which is correct?

Great pants, happy I own them

I own two pairs and have brought them with me on numerous treks through New Zealand, Alaska and Norway. These pants are very light, very durable, and dry fast. They have a slim fit which I like as the bottom of the pant tapers in so you don't have a lot of fabric flying around while hiking. I also love that they don't have a waistband; I specifically wanted a pant without a waistband as I find them uncomfortable. I am 5'11" and usually a 32/32; the 32 fits perfectly. The shorts stop just above the knee, an ideal length for my height. I wish the side pockets were a little deeper as change sometimes falls out while sitting, but the small, discrete zippered pocket works well. Highly recommended. FYI they do not stretch.

Comfortable and versatile

Update after a while:

I just downgraded my review after getting a pair of Mountain Khaki convertable pants, which feel superior to these in just about every way. Please see my review of them for more info!

Standard size is a 32" inseam. If you're short like me, you'll need to track down a pair with a 30" inseam instead.

The pants are super comfortable. I really enjoy the chamois waistband, as it prevents my pack from rubbing into my hips. The zip-offs are high quality and the shorts have additional fabric that covers the zipper so they do not rip your legs raw.

Marmot Cruz convertible pants - Mens

I love these pants! I previously have worn the Columbia Titanium convertible pants which have been fine, but these are in a whole different catagory. I really like the fit, I am 6 ft tall and weigh 200 lbs and the pants fit great. The material seems to have a better "feel" to it and doesn't wrinkle as easy as other pants I've worn.
I am very pleased with the pants and will purchase a few more pair for summer backpacking. Thanks Marmot!

I need about a 34 waist and 32 length--what size should I order?

I'd go large, unless you prefer a slimmer fit, then medium.

do these come in a 30in. inseam

Some retailers do carry the 'short' version that comes in 30" inseam. All 'regular' version has a standard 32" inseam.
