Thanks to its zip-off legs, you’re ready for a change in the weather or a change of venue when you’re wearing the Marmot Men’s Cruz Convertible Pant. The pant’s lightweight, abrasion-resistant woven fabric dries quickly after a washing in a campsite brook or a hotel sink, and it provides UPF 50-rated protection against sunburn. A gusseted crotch allows for easy movement, and deep zips on the cuffs let you zip off the pant’s leg without removing your shoe.

Bottom Line: Wear ‘em everywhere from the wilds of Borneo to the vineyards of Bordeaux.

The best pair of hiking pants. Ever.

I own two pairs of these pants and they have been tried and true. I took them throughout New Zealand, including a four day hike on the Milford Track, and I had them in Alaska on a five day backcountry trip through Denali National Park. They stood up well on both occasions- they dry super fast after rain, and are made of a lightweight durable cloth that didn't pull or tear, even when hacking through waist high bush and and shrubs. They fit true to size but in a slim way- I'm a 32/32 pant and these in a size 32-R fit like a glove, although I still prefer to wear a belt with them (even though it's not really needed). Another plus is they don't have the elastic waist bands which I find irritating- it seems like all other hiking pants have these now.

I also love how they don't have baggy side pockets which I find just get in the way. The semi-hidden zippered side pocket is perfect for small stuff like snacks, a flashlight, or a utility knife. These also have slimmer leg openings which I prefer. I find the leg openings smaller than other hiking pants from the North Face and Mountain Hardware. I find this makes walking easier- especially through open tundra and bush- and gets less dirt on the bottom of the pants. The material is very light (both in weight and feel) but I never had a problem with warmth in ~40-50 degree weather. They ofter decent wind protection, too.

All in all I find these the perfect pair of hiking pants and will probably be the only ones I wear for a while. A tip: make sure you get these in dark colors (i.e. not the light tan) as dark color hiking pants hide dirt and grass strains better, which is a plus on long treks.

How's the new model? Is 34W a true 34W?

Marmot has addressed the sizing issues from last year and the current version should fit true to size.

So far so good

Good fit -- a 30 short fits like a 30/30 should. They have good movement and are lightweight, but aren't as baggy as nearly all other hiking pants seem to be. Haven't taken them out yet, but if they hold up to Marmot's usual specs, I anticipate no problems.

Great pants!

I have a small waist so when it comes to outdoor clothes it can be hard to find pants that fit. The 28 on these pants fit perfectly for me and they are comfortable on top of that. I've been out climbing with these about 10 times and see no sign of wear yet. Super lightweight and dry fast.
