Chelsea Down Coat - Women's

Just as they call alcohol ‘liquid courage,’ you just might call the Marmot Women’s Chelsea Coat ‘down courage’ because its unbeatable combination of high-loft warmth, extra coverage, and a waterproof breathable shell will give you the nerve to face the worst that winter can dish out. The Chelsea’s sleek lines and fashion details like a removable faux fur ruff on the hood belie the rugged protection offered by the MemBrain two-layer fabric and fully taped seams, which allow no moisture to penetrate while still breathing comfortably. For extra coziness, Marmot insulated the Chelsea with no less than 650-fill goose down, and lined the zip handwarmer pockets with soft fabric.

Bottom Line: Serve up some courage and get outside.

Only coat you need for winter

By:
April 1, 2011

After I have this coat, the other coats and winter accessories are in the closet all winter. I felt very insulated when I wore it and zip it up all the way to the collar. It feels difficult to zip to the collar because it's thick. Anyway, I always do that, and I don't need any scarfs any more. When you put the hood up, it made me even warmer, and again I don't need any hat any more. Put my hands in the pocket, and I don't need any gloves also. I hate to carry scarf, hat, and gloves with me all the time in winter, and this coat serves all purposes. Another feature that I like very much is wind protection. Even the wind is so strong like to blow myself away, it didn't penetrate to my skin and I only wore a T-shirt and a thin sweater under it.
So far I can't see any winter coats out there can beat this one in terms of quality, feature, and style. I plan to buy it next year in another color.
Very love it!!:-)

I saw some negative reviews from previous years on how the velcro

I saw some negative reviews from previous years on how the velcro in the front closure (ie in front of the zipper to close the windflap) ripped the sleeve fabrics. Then I saw a review somewhere that said that the writer called the Marmot company who told the writer that they changed the velcro to snaps this year to solve the problem. However, I saw the photo of the product on the Marmot website, which showed the coat unzipped, and guess what? There are velcro patches all the way down the front of the coat, as well as 2 snaps located on the neck and bottom hem! What does the most current coat from fall 2010 have? Velcros or snaps, or both, like I saw in Marmot website? Thanks!

I actually love the thick collar. It makes me know I am really protected in the cold. No matter what I'll stay warm! I have the one from winter 2010 and velcrow around the windflap to remove the hood it or keep it on. I like that feature.

My 2010 coat has snaps. It's much better. My complaint is the collar is thick & heavily padded. It is not pliable and does not fold down when not needed. It's also a fairly heavy coat but not a hanger breaker. And the fabric attracts fuzz. But the warmth & wind protection are wonderful.

Get one for your wife and she will be steaming hot

By:
January 17, 2011

My girlfriend got one a year ago in Europe (No velcro) and she is very happy with that jacket. We are living in Sweden and she is warm and nice when the temp drops to 0°F or less...so I got one for my old mother and she is also very happy with the jacket.......It runs little bit small....

Thought it was great

By:
January 11, 2011

I got this coat as a gift for Christmas. I was so excited about it for over a month. I had thought the medium was perfect and fit snug, but after only 4 power yoga classes and how warm it is, I only need to wear one sweater underneath, it is now too big on me. I am about 120lbs and 5'4" and normally I wear a small, but this coat was so snug when I tried it on (for an hour), I originally felt a medium was perfect, but either it stretched or I lost a lot of weight. I'm thinking of returning it for a small, but right now their sold out of the black. And, the hood falls completely over my face, it is purely just decorative!

I actually double checked this view. I put on a heavier sweater and even though it looks a little bulky in my mid section, a small might be too small with an undershirt, sweater, scarf and hat. The comment above was with a thin sweater on, kind of like having on a t-shirt, maybe a little thicker but not much. I tried it on again with the sweater, a scarf and a hat, and it fits great, plenty of room to move around, and any smaller might be too small. (another comment with a petite frame and a small also said the small was too small for her). With the hat I could see that pulling the hood up its still really big, but I have a very petite head and if I could find someone to put velcrow or a snap or button of some kind on the sides of the hood to keep the fur secure around the edges it might be good. I guess I'll keep on the lookout for someone to help with putting this together and keep the coat. It's so warm and the material couldn't be any stronger. I love the pockets, and the sleeves are really long, even longer than I need and I have long arms. They go down to the middle of my hands when standing up so its not fit for skiing, but it's still awesome! I'll give it a whirl and let you know!

Marmot Chelsea Down Coat

By:
January 24, 2011

At last, at last, a warm coat! It has lived up to the descriptions (including being on the snug side. I had to return for a larger one. ) I love the color, the style,
everything! But most of all, at last I am warm. It comes to my knees, right where I like it; too bothersome with a longer coat and not warm enough at mid thigh.

I personally like the loose hood. I use it when walking the dogs and I can push it off easily if I get hot. The rest of the time it protects your neck and keeps you all snug without a hat.

wish it fit!

By:
January 23, 2011

My friend has this coat and it looks great on her. But I'm much shorter than she is and there lies my problem. The worst part was that it was super poofy right around the underarm area. Actually it's poofy and baggy on the top all around and I have enough to fill out the coat. Too bad it's a bad fit for me, it looks really well made and super warm. I guess I'm too vain! Still on the hunt for a warm and cute winter coat that fits me!

Wear a skimpy dress in 18 degree weather!

By:
January 22, 2011

I wore a skimpy dress out tonight underneath this coat and I felt great despite it being 18 degrees out. This coat is stylish too. No issues with "velcro", as were reported for earlier versions of the jacket, and which initially concerned me. I don't think that the size runs small, as some others have said. I was toward the top of the range for a "large" size as reported on the sizing guide, and the "large" fits me fine.

love coat.....service strange

first the pro's:

GREAT coat, warm, lightweight and stylish.... The perfect Christmas present for my sister.

Cons:

BAD experience while ordering, found a 20% off coupon before ordering, hadnit applied to order and then taken away. After conversation with company I was told the coupon had expired!

20% was about $60 so this was a bad blow.

May have to think my backcountry orders in the future

Awesome quality but too snug

By:
November 19, 2010

I ordered this coat for my adult daughter in a size small. She is a size 2/4, 5'4", and very slender. She has the Marmot down sweater in a small, and it is roomy, so I felt confident about the fit. However, this coat was much too snug in the bust and the shoulders. It is beautifully made and the dark purple color is awesome. Unfortunately I had to return it due to the very snug fit. I wear a size 10/12 and ordered this coat for myself in a large. I returned it for the same reason....too tight in the bust and shoulders to be comfortable. However, the return process was very easy.
