Thanks to high-loft 800+ fill down and an ultralight 20D DWR-coated nylon shell, the Marmot Arete 40-Degree Down Sleeping Bag weighs only 1lb 3oz (regular). An ideal sleeping bag for bike touring and ultralight summer backpacking, the Arete is made for people who're obsessed with keeping their packs light. Ground-level side seams prevent cold sports in this bag, and a down-filled draft tube allows the Arete to be sealed around your face when the temperature is a little too chilly.

I just got back from a 13.5 day thru-hike of the John Muir Trail. We had a few nights in the low 30's and I was fine on just a tarp with socks and midweight long underwear top and bottom. The best part about this bag is that you can go full mummy but vent your feet a little to prevent overheating. I would suggest buying a Sea to Summit (size small) compression bag to get this bag down to the size of a quart of ice cream.

I have used this sleeping bag five times at this point. It is lightweight and stuffs down to a small size. The coldest night I slept in the bag was probably in the high 40s, but I believe that this bag will perform as advertised.
