Shrugs off light moisture, bone-chilling cold, and the woes of limited backpack space.

The Marmot Men's Ares Down Jacket features 800-fill goose down that fights off the most bitter cold, and this jacket packs into its own pocket so it's easy to stash in your luggage or winter pack. A casual color-blocked style and regular fit help this jacket blend in at the resort or when you're cruising town. Don't sweat the weather if there's a little extra-wet snow in the air—an external DWR coating helps this jacket's face fabric shrug off light moisture.

  • Bantam face fabric is durable and lightweight, and it allows this jacket to pack down more easily than other more rigid fabrics
  • Water-resistant DWR fabric coating keeps you dry when you're faced with light moisture and precipitation
  • 800-Fill Power Goose down insulation is super lofty to keep you warm in bone-chilling temperatures, and the insulation is lightweight and non-bulky
  • Regular fit gives this jacket a more traditional, casual feel without going too baggy
  • Angel-Wing movement gives this jacket an articulated fit under the arms so you can move your upper body freely without lifting the hem and letting cold air in
  • Elastic drawcord hem allows you to cinch the hem with one hand, locking out chilly drafts
  • Jacket packs into its own pocket for easy storage when backpack or luggage space is limited

Awesome Jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This jacket has been pretty awesome so far. From wearing around the house, around the city, day hikes to -15 degrees, it has been perfect. I feel like the feathers come out a bit easy, but that's not to big of an issue. Really bomber jacket and it seems to be very rip proof. I am very happy with it and would recommend it. Also, the colors are sick! I have the Orange Spice/Blue Navy one.

Great Jacket

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I gave this to my brother for Xmas after several overly obvious hints. He likes the jacket for its retro look and its packable, lightweight down. It's been a super cold winter in SLC, and he's been comfortable. I bought him a large, which is what he usually wears. He's 6'2 and about 180 lbs (I think). The sleeves and body length are a bit longer than expected, but not a dealbreaker, and the overall fit elsewhere is spot on.

Great jacket.

This jacket is absolutely great. I just got mine about a month ago and I love it already. Having loved all of my previous Marmot purchases, when looking for a new down jacket I figured that I couldn't go wrong with continuing the trend, and this jacket stood out to me. I wanted a jacket that was both warm and durable but also really nice looking and fashionable, and the Ares is perfect. I have the Cobalt Blue/Dark Fern and it looks totally awesome. The tri-color scheme is very bright and has a vintage look to it. The down is super warm and compressible and the jacket is very soft and fluffy. Another great feature are the fleece lined pockets which are not mentioned but were a very pleasant surprise! They're perfect for keeping your hands warm and out of the wind. Also I got caught in a rain in it the other day and the fabric actually did a great job of wicking away the water drops. The jacket has a very light feel to it but is definitely very warm and can be worn as is or under another layer like a shell or heavy coat. Overall it is a great jacket and I would highly recommend it. Went on a fall backpacking trip with it and it did great.
