Description

800-Fill for the chill.

Some 800-fill down jackets have insane puffiness going on. The Marmot Women’s Ama Dablam Down Jacket, however, does not. Hexagon-shaped seams on the Ama Dablam help maintain a low profile.
  • Down-filled hood for head warmth
  • DWR coating on the shell helps manage light moisture
  • Angel-Wing technology boosts arm mobility
  • Drop-tail hem adds coverage in back
  • Elastic drawcord at hem helps seal-in heat

great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
  • Fit: True to size

Jacket looks just like the image, fits as expected from the description, but I wish it was a bit longer in the front, like it is in the back. I am impressed with the density of the fill, it should keep me warm in WI over christmas.

Love this jacket

  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share
  • Fit: Runs small

I got this for the wifey and she absolutely loves it. No more complaining about cold going throug her jacket. This jacket keeps her super toasty. She loves it and I wish they made the honeycomb pattern in the men's version. This does run a little small so if you are layering underneath I would size up.

AMA DA BOMB!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs small

I can't say enough good things about this down jacket. I got it for my girlfriend for Xmas and it's her go to jacket for daily winter wear here in the Wasatch Front, UT. It's not very bulky at all but still provides excellent warmth with the 800 fill down. I also like it's differentiation from the looks of the Patagonia Down Sweater which everyone owns these days. I purchased the Green Grass color for her and she's gotten tons of compliments on how awesome that color looks.

Near-perfect Puffer

This is my first down puffer, and I'm not sure how I've gone through life this long without one. I love this jacket - it's lightweight, compressible, and efficiently traps my body heat, plus I got the bright orange Spice color to ensure I'd be the first person the rescue chopper spots on the mountain. I'm a fan of the unique hexagon stitching that adds a touch of interest as well. So far I've taken this around town in late winter at sea-level, over a 4-day backpacking trip in Canyonlands in March, and up a few hikes in the Rockies to 12,000-14,000 feet in late spring, and it performed perfectly in all situations. The jacket was actually too hot to wear during the hikes, but I wore it on the summits and turns out it's quite wind-proof, too. Nice big zippered pockets and the double zipper also add to the whole package. I dinged it one star because even with a size small (I'm 5'7'', ~125lbs, but quite narrow on top) it had a slightly boxy fit around my rib cage - but certainly not a dealbreaker as everyone is built differently.

Really wanted this to work!

Unfortunately, no dice. I'm 5'5 ~ 130lbs and the medium was way too big. I ordered a little larger so that I could fit other layers underneath, but the sizing was comical. The shoulders are cut a little bit funny, so it looked like I was wearing football pads underneath. The red was a good color.

I exchanged for a Small in green and while the fit was a little better (shoulders were still funny, but not awful) the color combined with the hexagon stitching was reminiscent of a ninja turtle costume. Ended up returning that one too.

I really wanted this jacket to work ? I love the idea of unzipping at the bottom for a harness. It seemed really warm too.

Hahhah, I like the description "remniscent of a ninja turtle costume." I can see that! Color is important to not look like something else. I got the OR down hoody in this maroon-purple color. Looks good by itself but on me looked like exposed muscle, like on the picture diagrams. I got a green one in a slightly different style, no nija turtle costume in that b/c it didnt have hexagons and was bi-colored. I got the black in this jacket. Boring, but hard to go wrong.

LOVE IT... so far!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been wanting a jacket like this for awhile, when I saw the backcountry sale, I was hoping it was included, and it was! I have worn it every day since it arrived last week and completely love it! it even survived the blizzard of 2013 (kept me nice and warm while shoveling out and brushing off my jeep before we drove to the mountain)! From reading the other reviews I was nervous about it being too small or a color shade I didn't want. I am 5'5", 170 and I got the Bright Grass in XL. I probably would have also been fine in a L, but I do prefer jackets that are less tight, especially in the chest, so I can wear 2 or 3 items under (UA tshirt and longsleeve microfleece). I did not find the arms too long, which I was surprised about, since I don't have very long arms. I also didn't think it was too short in the front, and love how it covers you in the back! The bright grass color from 2012 is the same color as the green in the nature valley granola bar logo on the oat's and honey wrapper (or the NASTAR green). Exactly what I wanted! The fleece lined pockets are AMAZING, even at below freezing temperatures with no mitts or gloves, they warm your hands up right away! LOVE the jacket and hope it is sturdy and lasts!

Warm but the zipper is hard to zip

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift, but have feedback to share

I bought this jacket as a christmas present for my girlfriend. She tends to get very cold so I figured a puffy was a good call for this winters skiing and climbing seasons. In the month she has had it she has put it through quite a bit. It works fantastic as a layer; without excessive puff it fits nicely under outer shells. She wears it whenever she skis. Where I noticed the jacket stand out was its durability. My girlfriend wore it as an outer layer on multiple climbs, including some chimney pitches, and despite being dragged over quite a bit of rock it has not torn. She also had no problems with movement, the jacket allowed a full range of motion for the more awkward moves. Her only complaint was that the zipper sometimes is hard to manipulate especially with cold hands. Overall a stelar jacket and a definite five stars!

Shorty

Too short in the body for me. 5"2 130lb.

Awesome light weight winter coat!

Exactly what I was hoping for with a thin winter coat. Love that it isn't super puffy (and quite the opposite actually)! It fits great (I'm 5'2" and 165lbs), and the color choices are awesome. Plus it's a great price. I have only had it for a couple months, but it has kept me warm in -12 degree weather with wind! The only thing I wish it had would be a zip off hood!!

Finally... all the features I want

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Has all the features I wanted in a down jacket for climbing/belaying in cold weather: Down filled (600+), Hood (adjustable or elastic doesn't matter), Relatively durable shell (that 10D stuff seems so fragile), Relatively light but doesn't have to be super light, just not a traditional fashion jacket, Packs into own pocket (would settle for a separate bag, but prefer zipping into its own pocket), the more (large) pockets the better, Inside pockets (this one doesn't have a water bottle) but has a large zip pocket, Fits me more or less (not huge in the shoulders), cinchable bottom, double zip (hard to find, not even Rab has this on their current down jackets... Outdoor Research does), waist length, ... decent color on me. This has all the features. The other one that does is Outdoor Research Virtuoso, but that one is too big for me (I kept one anyway, and it has a giant inside pocket for water bottles).

Nice and cute jacket

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have been searching for a good down jacket for a while and this one caught my eyes in second. The design is cute, 800 fill keeps you warm throughout the winter. My favorite color was yellow, but they didn't have it in stock. So I ended up with Black and I was very satisfied.

I am 5'5'',90 lbs and XS was just a little bit large for me (very reasonable in this case). If they have yellow or black for kids', I wouldn't mind to get one. Really like the design and style. Recommend!

Enjoying this coat

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Holding up to Marmot quality. Lightweight without being flimsy. It has kept me warm on colder days and the double zipper feature is great when I overheat. The large interior zip pocket has come in handy when I need to store something and don't want to carry a bag. The fit is a little long in the arms and the cut is generous in the midsection. No feathers have leaked from the coat and not a blemish on the finish after several jumps from a large dog.

Great compressable down jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I've used the mens version of this jacket for 2 years now and never had any issues. Marmot has always satisfied my down needs and so when my wife needed a nice warm jacket to add to her collection this jacket was my first pick. Just to be safe however, we compared it with Mountain Hardwear's Ghost Whisperer jacket and Montbell's Alpine Light jacket.
In comparing the three, we felt as though the Ama Dablam would hold up the best out of the three as an hefty layering piece for cold winter days. While it's not the lightest of the three (for that the Ghost Whisper wins hands down), we both felt that it had the was the warmest jacket of the three especially when you add in the feature of being able to stuff it inside of its own pocket.
My wife is about 5'8" and 130 lbs. She usually goes with a medium in jackets so we stuck with that in the Ama Dablam and it fits her fantastically.

boxy fit

Beautiful jacket but the shape doesn't work for me. I'm 5'5", 120 and have a long torso. I ordered the small but it's much too boxy. There's too much room around the torso and even when the bottom elastic is pulled tight the jacket synches up and reveals my midriff when I lift my arms even a little bit. I'm sad to return it because I love the style, color and warmth, but I doesn't work for me :(

Nice, runs small.

Runs a little bit small. IE short torso/sleeves when I extend my arms. I ordered an XS, and a small would likely fit better. Unfortunately they're fresh out of smalls. I am 5'4 and have a climbers build... and maybe a long torso?? Warm. Bright! Love the beehive design!

Responded on

My measurements are XS. I want to be able to wear a fleece layer underneath.... do the sizes allow for that? Or should I go up to a small?

Very warm

Bought this last week before a ski trip up to Whistler. Got to test it straight away since we had -23C temps with wind on top of that. I combined the jacket with wool, fleece and paclite underneath and was warm all day. This jacket is a winner!

Responded on

did u need to go up a size to wear the other layers underneath? I'm also going to Whistler and thought this jacket would be perfect with other layers.

Sleek and warm

This is exactly what I was looking for in a down jacket. Its low profile keeps me from look like a marshmallow, but the 800 fill keeps me nice and toasty, even the hold is extremely warm. Perfect belay jacket, or for any other situation. I'm 5'11" 140 and I got a med and it fits me very well. If I wear a helmet with it, it does ride up in the back a little bit, but I really can't complain much. I love it!

I am trying to determine if there is only one green color (fern). The stock photo looks so different from the picture of the climber rappelling? Anyone?

Responded on

The stock photos are all photoshopped, and they never seem to get the colors quite right. Go by the picture of the climber rappelling, that's what the jacket actually looks like.

Responded on

I've seen it in person and it looks like bright lime green to me.

My wife loves this jacket!

I finally got a pick a more technical piece for my wife (who is both fashion conscious and don't want a big bulky downjacket that makes her look big).

Great warmth to weight ratio, very stylish, great orange color (brighter than Patagonia's color). Now one of her favorite pieces!

The sleeves are pretty short on me in a M but fits otherwise. If I go to a L - do you know how much longer the sleeves are?

Responded on

The sleeves for the large go to 35 inches, where the medium is 33
