For those times when you want a little more protection than a fleece, but don’t feel like encasing yourself in a heavy-duty shell, zip on the Marmot Men’s Altitude Softshell Jacket instead. This soft, stretchy outer layer provides water- and wind-resistant protection from moderate winter conditions; the breathable nature of the fabric makes it ideal for your next cold-weather run, hike, or cross-country ski outing.

  • Angel Wing Movement gussets ensure the jacket doesn’t ride up when you’re working up a rhythm skate skiing
  • Drawcord hem and hook-and-loop cuffs on the sleeves seal out the elements
  • DriClime lining on chin guard adds comfort

Bottom Line: Scale the heights in comfort.

Perfect Softshell Jacket

By:

I've always been a big fan of the MHW softshells but their offwidth jackets are cut way to short in the torso. Decided to try the Marmot Altitude and have been thoroughly pleased with quality and fit. A much normal length. Also the jacket does have a light fleece type insulation in the enter lining.

Marmot M-series fabrics are designed for moving light and fast. They combine stretchable, water repellent, abrasion resistant and highly breathable shell materials with insulating buffer materials on the inside.

M2 shells are the ideal balance between weather resistance, breathability and thermal protection. They are appropriate for a wide range of aerobic use in moderate to cold conditions.

What would be a temperature rating for this jacket? I see that

What would be a temperature rating for this jacket? I see that you have it included for some jackets in an advert on the Drudge page, it would certainly be helpful to include for all your products.

Temperature ratings are rarely ever given since it is a very individualized topic. Clothing you wear should be based on temperature, wind, precipitation, and level of activity. Somebody hiking in 20 degree weather might only wear a base layer and a shell while if I was standing outside waiting for a bus I might want a down jacket.

Most softshells will just protect you from the elements (wind, light snow) while remaining very breathable (like this jacket). Some have a light fleece lining, but in general are only meant as a shell.

Great jacket but needs larger arm holes

By:
February 24, 2011

This is a great jacket, but I am returning it because the under-arm area pinches when wearing a light-weight fleece under the jacket. I've noticed this problem with other softshell jackts by Marmot and other companies, so perhaps it's in the nature of the design. Again, while there is plenty of room throughout the rest of the jacket for layering, there simply is no space left under the arms.
