Description

Take to the hills.

Like mountain goats, the Marmot Alpinist Glove thrives above city-level in the rocky places of the earth. This 3-in-1 Marmot glove uses a waterproof MemBrain 2L shell reinforced with Goatskin to repel the elements, and a durable Gore-Tex insert glove that completely blocks wind and water. Flex in the palm allows you the movement needed to get a firm grip on your ski pole or ice axe, and a nose-wipe clears away bogies at twelve o’clock.

bdahern

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Agree with other reviews - gloves are not warm at all. They seem to have very little insulation in the fingers. Wore them 2-3 times and waterproofing worked well, but just not warm enough for cold days.

Great waterproof ski glove

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Took these skiing in +15 - 20 degree conditions. They worked perfectly. No complaints. They are super-grippy, and not bulky, so you you can actually do a number of things like manipulate a camera or phone, etc. Highly recommend these.

Decent fit, but cold fingers & broken strap.

While wearing these in the snow I spend as much time blowing hot air into my fingers as I do working.
There's a cinch strap on the glove collar that broke on the first outing.
That said, they fit well and have reasonably good dexterity. I might continue wearing them for summer snow climbs.

Warm, nice fit, not bulky at all

I don't agree with the review below regarding the warmth of these golves, but I kind of understand where it cam e from. When you first put these on, the first ride up the chair, they can be a bit cold. BUT once you are moving and circulating blodd, these are awesome! They are fully water proof, the fit is not bulky at all. They're very dexterious, zippers and buckles are a snap. they DO NOT have a removable liner, but I like that aspect. Not trying to get the liners to fit back into the shell after being removed. The safty straps work well and the srist cinches keep the snow out very well on those dee powder days. I highly recomend these gloves. Just keep in mind that the first few minutes will be a bit cold, but once warmed up they hold their heat very well.

Why the need for a Gore-Tex membrane...

Why the need for a Gore-Tex membrane underneath the Marmot Membrain? Pretty stupid having two waterproof membranes in the same glove...

Responded on

The mention of MemBrain is a mistake. The only membrane in the Alpinist is Gore-Tex.

Marmot Alpinist gloves

If you 're looking for warm gloves, don't buy these. Anything below 30 or so, I wouldn't wear them. So far every time I've worn them my fingers have been cold. On a nice sunny day in the 30's they are probably ok. They do keep your hands dry and are well made other than cold weather performance.

These gloves aren't warm

Just used these to shovel my driveway. Fingers were cold within a few minutes. Very disappointed. Worst gloves for warmth I've ever had, period. Going to return them. Looks = A, Performance = F
