Super nice jacket!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

The jacket fits well and I found it true to size. Very light weight, water & wind proof! Layers fit comfortably under the jacket too. Vents well and zippers work great.high collar keeps the wind out and lays flat with the hood in it. The hood is easily access able and fits comfortable! Thanks Emily J.

Marmot Aegis sz- _m

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I use this jacket to go on walks in the rain. Or to climb a latter to unclog a gutter on the house during a down pore. It has an adjustable hood with a brim that protects the head and neck area. All the zippers are designed to seal up tight to prevent any moisture from leaking in. It does a excellent job of keeping my head and body dry. I like the cobalt blue color and over all styling of the jacket. I'm 5-10 160 and sent back a sz large to get a medium that now fits me perfectly. The only other jacket that might be comparable to this jacket would be a Montane Atomic outdoor rain jacket. In either case you're getting among the very best in the world.

Sizing is large

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
  • Fit: Runs large

At 5'11", 160lbs, I typically wear a medium very comfortably. This jacket felt like an oversize trash bag. Tons of room for layering ... As in, enough room to wear medium-weight puffy down jacket underneath. Sleeves were a little long. The tail was also a little long.

Marmot makes great products, but I fail to see how this is an athletic cut. Superb construction and features. Just runs very large in my opinion.

Worth noting that I tried on a Small in a retail store. Which fit exactly the opposite.

Great jacket

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I did a lot of research before settling on this rain jacket. I actually finally decided on it after reading reviews by the gear lab. This jacket is super light and the jacket just beads water right off. The pit zips are great and the velcro wrist adjustments work surprisingly well. I do not have anything bad to say about this jacket. It has kept me dry so many times. I was hesitant to put it in the wash because I didn't want to ruin the perfection but after I finally washed did it is still the best rain jacket

fantastic shell

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I've tried on 20+ shells looking for just the right combo of features and this was the one, finally. Pit zips, burly enough but no stupid powder skirt, decent pockets, and it looks great. Had to throw it in the washing machine once after wearing it to do landscaping and it came out bright green as new. Was totally shocked on that one. Lost one star as the hand pockets are weirdly high up so you can't really use them for walking around w. your hands in there and trading the chest pocket for an arm pocket is annoying - its hard to open one handed.

A Jacket Worth Having

  • Fit: True to size

It's a great all around jacket. The pit zips work and if your still hot, unzip the pockets and let the air pass though the mesh pockets. I've worn it in several downpours and didn't experience any noticeable leaks in the seams. I love the stow away hood feature which is really nice when your not using it. My only wish would be an internal zipped pocket, but, that's just me..

Life Saver

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

Love the jacket kept me dry/warm after a full-day and night at a fall music fest in the ozarks. Forgot some gear at home on a trip and lived in it for three days. It's Holding up well after several camping trips - I'm sure I'll need to reapply some water repellent coating at some point but haven't needed to yet - packs tight & light -great addition

Works well and used a lot!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

I have had this jacket for quite some time now. I live on the Oregon Coast and have put this product to the test. I am 6'3" 195lbs but I went with an XL. I chose this size so I could put many layers on underneath. I am glad I went with the XL except the jacket is a little to roomy on the warmer rainy days.I would disagree with those that say this is not a breathable jacket. I have used this hiking/backpacking/cycling in the rain and jacket breathes as much as I would expect a RAIN jacket to breathe. As far as hiking in the sun I wouldn't know as I wouldn't be wearing this.

Does not breathe well

I use this for rain/wind protection on light hiking. It's more than adequate for that but it does not breathe well. Opening armpit zips helps with back/sides but doesn't do anything for shoulder perspiration. If the weather never goes to rain, just stays very humid, the fabric breathability seems to become even worse - and it makes me more wet than going without the jacket.

Even on the slopes

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

After a few days of owning it, I decided to try this jacket out on the slopes. It kept me nice and dry and the wind out while I was snowboarding in ~30 degree temps. With a light puff jacket underneath, I was burning up. I do wish it had a chest or internal pocket. The fit is great too. I'm 5'5 & 130lb, and small fits perfectly. I'm very glad I got the last small "Bright Grass".

Great Hiking Shell

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Fantastic shell! It’s kept me dry in snow and rain from Texas to the AT. It’s lightweight, breathable, and the pit zips keep the sweat from hanging around. The hood fits over a climbing helmet perfectly. My only complaints are the cuffs are a little hard to cinch down, and the drawstrings on the hood can be hard to use with gloves on. Plus, the arm pocket is useless. I would have preferred a chest pocket, or one on the interior of the jacket. I’m 6’3” and 180 pounds, and the large fits me wonderfully.

Best Ultra Light Rain Jacket

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am an OCD researcher when it comes to gear. I settled on this jacket over the Arc'teryx Alpha SL, Marmot Nano, and Stoic Vaporshell. This was the only jacket thas was under a pound, had pit zips, and pockets. The Stoic has no pockets or pit zips, the Arc'teryx has pockets but no pit zips, and the Nano also has no pit zips.

I have recently tested it on a 4 day trek around Catalina Island, and it did awesome! The fabric is super breathable which was almost a down fall. We had super high winds and this is definitely not a wind stopper, but it will keep you dry.

Overall, for the price and features, you can't beat it!

Excellent Rain Shell

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Keeps you dry, and the pit zips provide great ventilation. My only gripe would be that it doesn't stow in its own pocket, but, you can fold it and roll it up into the hood, as demonstrated in one of the other reviews. Fits well, also. Not too boxy or baggy.

Great Jacket

I am 6' 2" and weigh 240lbs the XL fits perfect. I have used this on Mt Rainier and Mt St Helens and have been very pleased. Keeps the wind and rain out and the pit zips help keep the airflowing.

Hello BC community,

I like to ski tour in softshell and bring a waterproof layer with me. I'm between the Mountain Hardwear Cohesion jacket and the Marmot Aegis. Does anyone hold an opinion on which might be better for such a purpose? Thanks!

Best Answer Responded on

David,
Either of these shells will be a perfect waterproof layer to keep in the pack in the case of inclement weather. They both weight about the same and are super packable. I have the MH Stretch Cohesion in DryQ Core, and absolutely love it. For me the fit is spot on. I'm 6 185 and the Large is perfect. I think the Cohesion is about a half inch to an inch longer in length, and features a nice athletic cut. Maybe it comes down to fit, as they both are very similar for the purpose you need.

A Great All Around Jacket

This has become my everyday jacket and I really can't find anything wrong with it. Well, maybe if they used velcro strips instead of those little squares on the cuffs... In all honesty this jacket does breathe well and does keep the snow off. Can there be improvements? Sure, longer pit zips and internal pockets, but, for the price, it's probably one of the best values around.

Fatigue Color

Just got the jacket in Fatigue. Color is more of a Hunter Green than a Military OD Green as I had expected from the "Fatigue" name. I am returning it for Black.

Other than the color, this jacket looks great. Material, build, and features are top-quality. Very thin and super-lightweight.

Hi. I really like this jacket, but i dont know to buy i Medium ore a Large, i weigh 71 kg. and i am 1.84 m.

Check out the sizing chart just below the price. Your best bet will be to measure your chest and waist and go with that. I have found Marmot's sizing to be pretty accurate.
