High and Tight

This review may be moot if the jacket is discontinued. With that caveat, here are the pros and cons: on the plus side, the jacket is stylish and the wool outer shell/synthetic fleece lining works well. The fit, at least for me (6', 185 lbs, bought a L) leaves a lot to be desired. The cut is athletic, which is fine, but the sleeves are a good 2" too long, never had a size L in anything with such long sleeves. Even worse, the armholes are cut so high that the jacket gives your armpits a wedgie. Is this some weird Euro proclivity? I cannot believe the average European man wearing a size L has a torso so freakishly long that this jacket would be comfortable...

    Toasty!

I just got back from a two week trip at the Gates to the Arctic National Park (Alaska). We got lucky on the rain, but the wind was icy at times. The Mammut Tundra jacket (in green) kept me nice and warm, without overheating during the hikes through the tundra. I especially liked the collar, because it kept the wind away from my neck. The green color actually looks much nicer in real life than in the product photo, even thought the color is pretty accurate. Mine fits quite snugly with not much room to spare (Jacket: XXL - Me: 6'3"/ 250lbs), but it moves with you, so it doesn't limit your range of motion. The inside is super soft gray fleece. If you reverse the jacket and stuff it into one of its sleeves, it doubles as a nice, soft pillow! :o)

Once I get the camp fire smell out, I'll be wearing it on non-backpacking/camping occasions.

      Stylish and functional

First bought the medium in black, I'm 5"9" and 150 lbs. It was snug but the armholes were too tight. Exchanged for the large and that worked. This jacket is stylish and the wool with fleece inside is a warm combination. I like the black/red colour combo. It's good to get a jacket that doesn't look like you just rolled in from a campsite. Sleeves are longish. I find Mammut gear just that bit more zingy, have a great down vest also.
