    Ride those rocks safely.

It's hard to have a good head at a chossy crag without a hard helmet protecting your brain box from falling rocks, but it's also annoying to climb with a bulky helmet weighing your head down. Mammut offers a solution with its lightweight Rock Rider Climbing Helmet. The EPS core with Micro Shell exterior is very strong while remaining extremely lightweight. And the in-mold interior offers all-day comfort whether you're climbing sporty crags or multi-pitching up an alpine ascent. Sixteen ventilation openings give this helmet a wide range of uses including ice and mixed climbing, and even ski touring.

You can adjust both the headband and the chin strap for an ideal fit no matter the shape of your melon, and both the band and strap can fold into the helmet for a more compact fit into your backpack. Four clips stabilize your headlamp so it doesn't slide up or down your face while you ascend in the early mornings and descend while the sun drops below the horizon.

    Great, sturdy, light helmet.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I first used this helmet indoors on just regular lead routes. The helmet sits comfortably on my head and does not move around while climbing. The inner lining does a great job of keeping the helmet secure and comfortable. Although it appears to be on the heavier side it is actually extremely light and offers great protection. There are four clips on the helmet to secure a headlamp and it seems to do the job just fine. The helmet is fully adjustable and I had no problem making it fit my head. The first time I took it outside I was hit by a fist-sized rock from above and it bounced right off without a leaving a trace on the helmet. The vents do a great job to keep my head cool as well.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Of my 3 helmets this one seems to find its way into my pack most frequently. It is very lightweight, my Petzl Sirocco is lighter, but I like how this one sits on my head and I think it can take a more sustained beating. This has been my go to option for ski touring with a beanie underneath and has also been a great option for summer mountaineering. Headlamp clip works great and I've never had my BD Storm headlamp pop off. Chin strap is very comfortable and has never cut into or irritated my neck. Sure a hard shell helmet is more durable overtime but this piece is holding up well after getting tossed around in and out of my pack and being hit by small rocks and ice chunks and it saves precious ounces in a pack!

    Worth it!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Just took it outside for the first time this week. Very breathable and light, I forgot I had it on. The adjustable headband makes it very versatile and when I adjusted it to my size it felt like it was custom made. Looks cooler and fits much better than your average bucket helmet, and again, way more breathable than the BD Half Dome I was used to using.
Attached my headlamp to the advertised headlamp clips to see how well it worked, honestly it had to really stretch to fit on there but it did (and I actually have a Mammut headlamp so I'd think it's the size this helmet is built for). It'll work on there but definitely not the clean fit I was hoping for.
But overall, great helmet that I'm looking forward to using! I'll edit this if I end up having issues with it.

    Great Helmet!

I bought this specifically for ski-touring and alpinism. I've had it on one tour so far and I have to say I really like it. It's super light which makes it unnoticeable when it's being carried whilst skinning. The fit is great, I have had a Camp & BD half-dome before, which I liked, but compared to those two, this thing fits like a...um...glove! Super comfortable when both skiing & climbing, to be honest I forgot I had it on. Despite it being light, it doesn't feel 'lightweight" - I was concerned about bailing in the crappy spring snow and banging my noggin which is why I bought it. I guess the real test will be if it takes a smack but so far this seems a very well made, super comfy and great looking lid

    Great Helmet!

    Light but solid

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Used this helmet in the Alps this summer in two trips (Castor/Polux and Kuffman to Piz Pal?). In both trips the helmet did not suffered at all after being jammed in the bag and put through several flights. During the climbs the helmet was very comfortable and well fitting for my head. Although it felt weightless, the times that i bumped my head on rocks the impact felt softer and better absorbed to those that I had experienced with my previous helmets (Peztl). I whacked my head hard against a sticking rock point in the Kuffman pillar and the helmet showed no mark afterwards. I found it easy to adjust, even with one hand and being used to other systems. The buckle works fine and the smart strap system does not interfere by hanging. Did not rub my neck as previous helmets that I owned. I did not use it with a head-lamp but the clips seem easy enough to use. In all, I am very happy with this helmet. I was worried because it was a "light" helmet but it is turning to be harder that expected. I may update this review as I use the helmet more but so far, this is a very good product.
