The inevitable ridge-scootch occurs at the most inopportune times and has been known to occur on the east ridge of Superior in the Wasatch or on the Bridger Ridge outside of Bozeman. The Mammut Ridge Jacket is the rain jacket to support your scootch habit in the event of rain storm.

  • Drytech offers protection from the wind and water in a breathable laminate
  • Two-way front zip for access to a harness or snacks buried inside layers
  • The M.A.P. hood does not restrict your field of vision even when your head is turned
  • Pre-shaped sleeves won’t limit your range of motion
  • Regulate your body temperature with underarm zips

Bottom Line: And you thought only dogs and cats could scootch.

I need a rain jacket to use exclusively in warm and wet conditions

I need a rain jacket to use exclusively in warm and wet conditions (late Spring or early Fall to be more specific). As I already have a couple of hard shells that can provide some degree of insulation, they cannot be used in warm conditions. Is this jacket fit for this purpose?

Sure this will work fine for you. The best performance is going to come from something made of gore-tex paclite. It's more expensive, but backcountry.com does have 2 such jackets on sale that put them in this similar price range:
Cloudveil Crystal Creek
The North Face Circadian

Rain? What rain?

Excellent jacket: super "pack-able" and it's also extremely lightweight. I've personally never used a jacket that IS NOT gore-tex, so this was kind of an experiment, but I have to say I'm extremely pleased though, it kept the rain OUT as well as the wind. Fit's great, though I would look at the sizing chart and get a tape measure out before purchasing it (i'm usually a large [I'm 6' 2" and 170 lbs] and I bought it XL and it fits great). Overall great jacket, also from an excellent company (c'mon, mammut is pretty hard-core), as well as that backcountry has an excellent return policy.

JJ, thanks for your question. The Mammut ridge is a 2.5L hardshell jacket. Drytech is Mammut's proprietary hardshell fabric. I hope this helps you out.

dry and light

Love this jacket. Packs small and is very light, probably not the lightest but very reasonable. Also like the cut, not too tight but not baggy, works with a few layers if its cold or just over a base layer. Seems really breatable and it kept me dry in two days camping/hikking in the rain. Just a great piece!

It is not a breathable as gore-tex proshell and it is not as durable. Drytech will work well for basic spring/summer hiking, camping, urban trekking but I won't take a DryTech jacket on a serious outdoor pursuit. That is why Mammut makes GoreTex jackets and why their EXTREME and Alpine line gear are all Gore Tex and not DryTech.
