A critical element to safety in the backcountry.

Designed to increase your odds of survival in the event of an avalanche, the Mammut Ride On RAS Backpack reduces your chance of a full burial with the help of the proven Snowpulse Airbag Technology. The Ride On also features Mammut's RAS (Removable Airbag System) so you can exchange the airbag system between different RAS-compatible Mammut packs, depending on the day's objective.

Activation of the system is simple: you pull on the handle, which is attached to the cable, which attaches to the RAS. (The deployment handle can be stowed away within a zippered pocket located on the shoulder strap when you're not wearing the pack.) When you pull the deployment handle, the compressed air cartridge opens and air flows through the valve into the airbag. The bag also draws ambient air into the bag, resulting in 150 liters of air for flotation. The process takes around three seconds to complete. Increasing your surface area with the air bag naturally pushes you to the top of the slide, reducing the chance of a full burial.

The Ride On comes equipped with everything you'll need for a full day in the backcountry. The large front pockets hold a shovel, probe, rutschblock cord, and snow study kit, as well as an extra midlayer. A top padded goggle pocket protects your goggles safe on the skin up, and the hydration sleeve lets you bring your hydration bag along for the ride. A front sleeve holds a helmet, and two compression straps along the front let you secure your load. An ice tool loop is located at the bottom, and poles can be carried vertically along the front of the pack. Skis can be carried diagonally, and snowboards can be carried vertically, and the thermoformed back panel keeps everything comfortable both on the skin up and the ski down.

The compressed air cartridge is sold separately, but may be refilled after use. Airline travel with cartridges is restricted, but locations of rental shops for the cartridges are listed on Mammut's website. The Snowpulse Airbag does not protect from impact-induced injuries in the event of an avalanche.
