Great for winter

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

Bought these as a second pair of approach shoes, but ended up wearing them mostly to work and around this winter and they are awesome on ice/snow. I've found them to be about average on rock, but if you are looking for something to wear walking around icy sidewalks these are a great choice.

Great Shoes

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: Runs large

I love these shoes. From small hikes, to long backpacking trips, all the way to scrambling to the crag- these shoes do wonderfully. I got a 7.5 (true to my size) but wish I would have ordered a half size down.

Purple Shoes

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

I had a hard time ordering the correct size. Typically I wear a 9 or a 9.5 and originally ordered an 8 but the forefoot was too narrow, then returned it for an 8.5 and that was right.

I've worn them to school a few times to break them in, and received lots of compliments on the looks.

I went for a short hike (5 mi) with them, mostly on trail but some off trail. They did fine. I think the sole is thicker than other shoes makes you about an inch taller. Did well stepping on yucca and other cacti (I am in Albuquerque).

These are not waterproof but the leather will shed some moisture but certainly not a dunking or heavy down pour.

KILLER hiking shoes!

They're made beautifully. They fit like a dream. They're stiff enough to hike on all kinds of terrain but responsive enough not to wear you out on short, easy jaunts. LOVE THEM!

I recommend going down a full size from the American size you normally wear. Example: I always wear a European size 41, and damn near always an American 10. For some bizarro reason, Mammut calls their Euro size 41's an American 9, or a UK 7.5. Their size 10 was a Euro 42.5 (HUGE!). It took doing the swap-via-mail to get the right size, but I'm dialed in now and happy as a clam.

Great approach shoe!

I got these shoes primarily as approach shoes since I'm hiking up steep slopes and boulder fields a lot. They are soooo comfortable. The tongue is a continuous piece with the inner lining and holds your foot so well. Really cushy on the inside, but also feels really secure. They are not a light shoe, so I wouldn't recommend them for climbing in - stick to the trail with these.
