Neon Speed 15L Backpack

It's not an approach pack or a "bring all your stuff for a chill day at the crag" pack, but the Mammut Neon Speed 15L Backpack is a small, slim, and lightweight pack designed to actually wear while you're on long multi-pitches. Its Contact Basefit suspension helps it sit close your back so it won't move and peel you off tough holds, and the VenTech breathable fabrics keep your back and shoulders from getting excessively sweaty while you're pulling down. Gear loops and multiple small pockets can hold carabiners, draws, slings, cams, and other extra gear, and you can stow your trekking poles and ice tools in the special loops when you're on your way to and from the crag. The Neon Speed also has a separate hydration compartment to prevent leaks, a stowable hip belt that's easy to stash away when you need full freedom of movement, and a zippered volume extension that lets you bring along extra gear if you think things might get a little dicey.

Good, but sits low

When the pack is loaded, it sits quite low on the back. It fits a double rack of trad gear up to 3 barely, but the material between the backpack and the back is quite thin, and causes protrusions to stick through in an uncomfortable way. For sport climbing the pack may suffice, but I found it lacking for trad and would instead go for something with a bit more space, maybe a 22l bag. I like the features and loops, but found the front straps to be too thin to hold the pack well without cutting into me.

Good Updates to the Old Version

I loved the old multi-pitch day pack and recently saw this updated version and had to get it. The additional features this pack has are great. I do wish the elastic outer pocket fit Mammut's own men's medium wall rider, but storing approach shoes is good as well. Also think this version has improved the straps and added some more storage options from my 2018 version. Overall a great small bag and definitely worth a carry on short hikes and multiple pitch climbs.

Great bag for climbing or hiking

Grey lightweight bag for multi pitch climbs and also for everyday use. Have hiked with it as a camel back a ton too. Neat design features like the cell phone shoulder strap pouch and the expandable elastic pouch make it extremely versatile. Only design weakness is that maybe you could just have an elastic pouch up front, remove the zipper, save weight and money on production-I have not broke the zipper yet and I have stressed it pretty hard. Have several buddies who bought this after seeing it.

great bad for summiting and multi pitches. Very compact , easily fit inside larger packs. See no issue with this pack. Great product.

Love all the different compartments and gear loops. Perfect for multi-pitching and single day adventures. Feels like it carries so much more than other 15l packs. Can't recommend it enough

Still just a tad too small

I can still hook the rope to the bag but it is hard to carry with a tarp to cover the rope along with the rest of my gear. But this bag is perfect overall, great amount of space for my gear and doesn't get too awkward. Its really meant/perfect for short day climbs!

Perfect multi-pitch pack

Perfect size and feature set for carrying either the rope or the rack + your personal items for a multi-pitch route with decent weather forecasts. I wear my harness and clip pieces from the rack directly onto my harness and the gear loops on the pack for the approach, with the interior of the pack holding the water reservoir, food, a light shell, maybe a puffy, and climbing shoes. In a pinch, I can also throw the rope on top and clip it with the rope holder, but in practice that gets a bit heavy. The phone holder is a bit of a joke. It could hold an old school Nokia candy bar phone but nothing much bigger than that. I've seriously thought about cutting it off. Otherwise, it's a fantastic, versatile pack. Highly recommended.

Fits a lot more than most 25L bags

Takes very little space in the main bag and easily fits my approach shoes, clothing layers, emergency gear, food and 3L bladder for the climb. Somehow swallows up 1.5 trad racks, two pairs climbing shoes and two harnesses for the hike back to camp. I don't use the extra strap on the shoulder strap and wish there were a teeny bit more padding in the back for my scrawny 5 foot 100lbs body. If I were a larger person with some flesh on the shoulders then **chef's kiss!**

Trad pack

small light leaders pack for trad climbing. The helmet carrier is a great touch and you can strap a fair bit of gear to the pack! Keep the approaches short and the gear light as there is no structure to the bag. Fabric is a bit thin and light, which helps to shed weight, but be careful when climbing offwidths (or perhaps just avoid them) I have to admit that I was post excited about the phone holder, and if you have a compact phone you will be OK. Quite disappointed that my iPhone Plus does not to fit in the shoulder pocket. Otherwise the pack is great for long multi pitch routes though. A great pack for done in a day alpine scrambles in moderate conditions as it carries both a light rack and snow gear.

Great lightweight climbing pack

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This pack is small enough to put in a bigger pack for approaches, or can carry enough for the day from the trailhead. The expandable helmet carrier is well designed and works as a quick "stuff sleeve" when zipped closed. The separate hydration sleeve keeps my bladder in the right place and the gear slings are handy when carrying a bigger rack
