Mammut designed the Mt. Vista LTH Women’s Backpacking Boot to address all the different zones of the foot, thusly providing the most comfortable fit possible. Heavy loads and long distances are made more manageable by foam cushioning throughout the boot. The extremely soft Nappa-leather lining is highly breathable and absorbs moisture well, providing climate control around your feet to lessen the chance of discomfort and blisters. The shape of the sole promotes natural foot roll, preventing fatigue and reducing the danger of twisting your ankle. And a Vibram rubber outsole gives you optimal grip on varying types of terrain.

Bottom Line: High performance mountaineering footwear.

It doesn't say anything about being waterproof... Is it?

It doesn't say anything about being waterproof... Is it? I'm in Washington State. We need waterproof around here.

No, not specifically. Leather is naturally water resistant, though. If you're looking for the waterproof (Gore-Tex lined) version of the same boot, it's here: http://www.backcountry.com/outdoorgear/Mammut-Mt-Vista-GTX-Boot-Womens/MAM0187M.html?RSC_ID=WR_MAM0187

too warm & material settles - snug fit evaporates

Too hot for summer backpacking - my old leather gtx Raichle boots perform way way better (tried to re-sole it but did not work out). The cushioning was great for 2-3 months or so but now the material has settled the boot is too wide where initially it had a great snug fit. The leather/textile around the ankle is way to soft for a backpacking boot and I sprained an ankle even without a backpack. No actual ankle support to speak of, might as well be comfortable and wear sneakers ... well there is a little support when you tie the laces really super tight but even then not much. If you happen to have no ankle issues (I do) and/or a wide foot (I don't) and ignore the initial super snug fit then this boot may work for you for the cold season.

These weigh in at 2 lb. 14 oz. for the pair in a US 7 so 10 will be a lil heavier but still..pretty light.
