The Mammut Mirage Harness gives you high-end features at a low price that's easy on any dirtbag climber's checkbook. Pre-formed gear loops provide plenty of space for a large trad rack, and the well-padded waist and leg loops increase comfort at hanging belays. The Mirage Harness also comes with Mammut's easy-to-use Slide-Bloc buckle on the waist-belt to allow quick, easy adjustments and eliminate the possibility that you'll ever forget to double back.
Bottom Line: Get high-end comfort at a budget price when you hook up the Mammut Mirage Harness.
Good comfortable. Sturdy (thank goodness), and pretty comfortable. It fit bigger than I thought it would, but I guess that means I have some growing room. haha.

I bought this as a backup harness for that group of friends that want to try the sport but dont want to invest the money just yet. I wanted a harness that can fit a lot of different shaped bodies. I am 5ft 6in and 165lbs and I wanted it to just fit me and most of my friends are heavier and taller then I am so I bought a Large.
This harness fit the bill for lots of adjustability. I have a 33 waist and with the belt cinched down all the way it fits like a glove but the thigh straps dont cinch down tight enough. I dont really mind except for when I am walking the straps rub together. This might be due to the generous amount of padding on the inner thighs and the adjusting buckles. I am use to non-adjustable thigh straps on my primary harness which doesnt have much padding.
For some reason this harness is more difficult to shake out when going to put it on. Its heavier, bulkier, and I dont like it as much as my (medium)Petzl Sama but for half the price (@ $32.99) its worth picking up as an extra/ fit all harness. It looks good, made well, and seems to be very durable.
Anybody see any issue with using this on a future Mountaineering trip as far as would a few days in the ice and cold have any effect on this. Not sure we will need to tie in but I think we are going to bring the harness just in case.
This being my first modern harness, (I have had a BD simple nylon webbing harness for 15 years using it to rappel off cliffs and buildings) I was happy with how comfortable it was. I have a 34 waist and a medium fit well, even over cold weather layers, and with room to shrink or grow. I am not planning on climbing a lot so I didnt want to spend a lot on climbing gear but I did want quality. I compared this to the BD Momentum and decided on the Mammut Mirage because it has a curved plastic piece where you tie in, just seemed like better quality for the same price.
Great harness, comparing the price with the gear here in Brasil its ridiculous, but the size runs bigger, I got a L size, even the measures and the chat person recommends a XL. (and sorry for my rusty english)
Hey Hayden, take into consideration the leg sizing... if you fall into an obvious category here, then go with that one... otherwise I would go with the medium...
Ok this harness is awesome. Went out and used it today and it was everything I thought plus more. Mammut is by fare my favorite company when I comes to climbing. The quality in there work and the price they sell if for.
I would recommend this to all my friends and once they are in stock I am buying another.
I always thought that the waist buckle was cool because you don't have to douple it back. The leg lops you have to douple back which isn't a bad thing. The one part that anoyyed me way the gearlops slope backwards and all your gear is on the backside. That anoyyes me because when somethins is in the middle off the gear lope it gets sguished between everything else. Other than that it is a comftorable harness that can hold many falls.
This was the first harness I ever purchased personally, and before that I had been borrowing black diamonds from my buddies. The Mammut Mirage is a great first buy and Im super stoked about it. Its comfortable, fits well and has plenty of gear loops. The only (very small) downside, is that the leg loop straps dont double-back automatically as the waist strap does, but thats just me trying to find something wrong with it. Great harness. One last thing, the plastic piece on the tie-in loop makes scary noises when repelling, but just know its only squeaking plastic while it sounds like the harness is tearing apart.
I would like to know if being squished around in a backpack and getting soaked will have compromised the long term effectiveness of this harness. Basically, is it still safe to catch falls?
being squished isnt so much of an issue as being soaked. dont let your harness stay wet, if it gets wet let it dry asap and especially before storing. if you store it wet then there will be a breakdown of the fibers and decrease the longevity of your harness.
Good comfortable. Sturdy (thank goodness), and pretty comfortable. It fit bigger than I thought it would, but I guess that means I have some growing room. haha.
Just got done climbing with this harness and I have nothing but good things to say about it. If you're sitting back in the harness working on a problem, you may as well be sitting in a recliner, it's that comfortable. Also, the gear loops are located closer to the front of the harness so placing quickdraws and other pro is much more convenient. All in all, it's a great deal for the price, I'd recommend it to any of my friends.
This is a good harness if you're just getting into climbing. The sizes seems to run a bit big though. I wear a 34 pant and can cinch the waist of the M all the way down. The gear loops are easy to clip into/out of. One thing I did not like is that if your sizing was not dead on, one of the gear loops would be farther forward on your waist, allowing quick draws, cams, nuts, etc to slip between your legs as you climbed. This makes clipping/climbing more annoying than anything. Compared to other harnesses in this price range, I think this is one of the most comfortable to hang/sit in.
I have just purchased this harness and the fit seems to be reasonable. The waist is perfect but the legs are semi-loose. Is this still safe or should i go a size lower?
The waist is the most important part, so if the legs are a little loose no big deal. I find that alot with harnesses, the waist fits well but legs don't or vice versa...I assume you adjusted the leg loops fully?
I went from a standard gym harness to this and the difference was night and day. THis one actually feels relatively comfortable to sit back and hang out in!
As a broke college student, I can truly appreciate the great quality of this harness as well as the nice, low price. It's also a nice harness for beginners.
nothing too special about this harness, it is at a good price and is fairly comfortable. it does fit a little larger than i thought. the legs holes are a little harder to adjust than i had wanted. the gear loops are bomb proof. and it has a nice plastic pice for the rope. over all a good harness
I tried three or four harnesses at my gym in this price range (50-80 bucks or so) and this was the most comfortable. Right features, well thought out buckle layout, solid feeling, and more comfortable than the rest I tried. Sizing was bizzare but that is not performance related so I wont knock off points. I have a 32 waist and fit a medium in most anything pants/waist/belt related and Mammut's medium was still leaving some space. The small fits me well.
Great fit, comfortable, easy to adjust. Only draw back is the plastic "protector" makes clipping in a little tight if your not using the belay loop. Haven't hand any problems with construction.
Harness has enough padding to be comfortable during long climbs. The side loops are good for holding necessary gear. Only drawback is if the wearer sweats during a climb the harness does not dry for quite a while.
Love this harness!! It was given to me as a gift and I can't complain. i've sat in it for a while on multi-pitch climbs and it never bothered me. I usually run about a 32-33 waist in pants and i have this harness in large. This size works just fine for me. This is a great harness!
This is a very comfortable harness. Size is larger than I thought it would be might want to purchase a size smaller than normal waist size. Gear loops are sturdy and easy to access.
Used this harness on my first canyoneering trip. It was easy to get into and adjust. Felt very secure and comfortable throughout the canyon. It was flexible enough to navigate through a boulder field with huge step-ups.
Good comfortable. Sturdy (thank goodness), and pretty comfortable. It fit bigger than I thought it would, but I guess that means I have some growing room. more...
