Light and bright

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

The Mammut Lithium 32 serves well as a large daypack or a relatively small weekender. I typically use this pack for winter summit hikes and snowboarding and its light weight and bright pallor work well for both. My only criticism is that it doesn't always have enough external pocketing and strapping for my needs. I sometimes have to turn to one of my other packs when carrying crampons, snowshoes, etc.

Any washing instructions? I spilled a glass of Harissa (strong chili sauce) on my backpack, and are very tepted to put it into the washing maschine..

NOOOO!!!!!! Do not put your pack in the washing machine and do not use a regular detergent unless you are ready to get a new pack.

Here is what you do, get some Nikwax Tech Wash, fill up you claw-foot bathtub with lukewarm water, let your pack soak for 15 minutes in the solution, gently agitate by hand, hang dry. Now the stain might not come out completely since its chili sauce and it sounds like its been setting for a while, so take the time while its drying to come up with some story like you had to fight off a bear and those are the blood stains (from the bear obviously).

Hey Rune,
Wayne is right, whatever you do, avoid at all costs putting this pack into a top loading washing machine. The central agitator will wreck havoc on your pack, so it's best to hand wash with a mild detergent like Nikwax.

I top load wash my Lithium all the time with GAIN powder detergent and occasionally Nikwax. I have the bright yellow colour so it always gets dirty. The fabric is super light and washes easily. There are also no hard parts (like stays) to get damaged. I also have been washing my backpacks except the extra large 7000+cui Dana Design Astralplane since the 1990s this way with no noticeable damage from the machine. Do not use liquid detergents or fabric softners. Also be wary of what type of water your county uses. Hard mineral well or ground water may do damage. I live in a big city so I don't worry about.

Nice light weight pack

I decided I needed a lighter pack than what I was using for day ski tours, so I bought this here on BC.com. I like the pack very much, with a couple of cautions.
The top pocket could use a little more room, and it needs to be adjustable to extend, so that when it is full, it doesn't pull down so tight. This might be something that I can alter on the sewing machine?
Also, be aware that this pack does have it's weight limits in terms of comfortable load carrying. It is light after all, so don't expect to load it down with 20+ pounds of gear, and be all day comfortable. You really need a pack with a better suspension system to carry much weight.
The hip belt design is a little strange, but once I get used to it, I think it will be ok. Having said all that, I think it is a good pack for light, easy days when I don't need to carry over 13 pounds or so. The pack seems very well made, of high quality materials.

Where are the ax loops? Surely there is one?

Responded on

No ice axe loops to be found. But, unless you like the buttspikes of your axes jabbing you in the ankles, you want to slide the axes down along the side compression strraps.

This is not a winter backpack nor an optimal one for winter activities where tools are sharp and gear is quite bulky. The fabric is thin and will shred if you stuff ice tools or ice climbing gear in or around the pack.

Awesome

So I am currently using this pack for climbing talk about room and options. Plus I love the green color woot woot.

But all in all plenty of room and most of all the comfort doesn't bother or hurt back at all when loaded down.
