Ideal for extended treks and backpacking adventures, the Mammut Women's Kira Pro 1/2 Zip Top is a toasty, moisture-wicking baselayer that's incredibly light and packable on the trail. Constructed with Polartec Power Wool, this performance baselayer features cozy-soft wool on the inside for moisture management and anti-odor properties, with quick-drying polyester along the outer for increased weather-resistance. Its UPF 20+ rating provides extra protection from UV rays, especially when you're hiking along exposed valleys and high altitudes. Other key features include smooth flatlock seams to prevent irritation, as well as offset seams along the shoulder panels to prevent excess rubbing against a heavy pack.

    • Smooth flatlock seams
    • 1/2-zip closure

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

A little skeptical when I got this because it is so lightweight, definitely not as thick as the Mammut Snow 1/4 zip. Wore it with a long sleeve (TNF Reaxion Amp) under it on a hike at about 2500' in the Taconics (Mass/NY border area). The day started out near freezing and I stayed warm. By the afternoon with temps near 38, I found I had to take my jacket off because I was too warm. Without a jacket on, I could feel the cold of the wind through the shirt but this is meant as a base layer, so no complaint there..

The fit is more relaxed than the Snow 1/4 zip so more flattering. Ordered this in Black/Light Carmine and while it looks somewhat black and pink in the photo, it's more of a charcoal grey/ dark salmon color. This is very comfortable so I see this transitioning into use on cool summer mornings and evenings with those hikes that last from dawn to dusk.
