Explorer GTX Hiking Boot - Men's

It can be hard to get rid of your old school leather hiking boots, even when they no longer provide support or resistance to the elements. Mammut understands, and it made the Explorer GTX Hiking Boot with a classy, full-grain leather upper and a waterproof breathable Gore-Tex membrane. A polyurethane wedge in the sole absorbs shock, and a combination of flexible and fixed studs on the Vibram sole provide stable grip on rocky trails.

Bottom Line: Old school looks, new-school support.

Nice fit and lightwieght. Seam stitching is very poor. The pair i have has multiple rips in the seams on both boots. The sole is also falling apart on me. Ok boot, but made in CHINA = Crap!!

mammut and raichle recently joined forces and they're products are all awesome. raichle was based from switzerland with over 100 years of boot making experience and they have good boots. mammut puts out a lot of good products too.

I have a pair. It's true that they're confortable, but they aren't very durable. After a few hicks they started to unsew on the sides.

different model

By:

the boot is great, but it is a different model from what I bought.
the sole is different and the front of the boot where the mark is printed Mammut is leather, and the site has the boot on the front rubber.

Not good enough for a walk out the door!

By:

I purchased a pair of these, took them out of the box put them on. They fit very nice and felt great on the feet, however, when I tried to snug the laces tight an eyelet in the right boot broke. I looked in the tongue and... Made In China.

JUNK!

Great boot! Very happy with the fit right out of the box. Pretty light duty boot but perfect for day hike to overnight. Really suprised to see the value here. Inexpensive for what you get.

Winter, Hiking, Town

By:
March 12, 2010

These were great just for winter wear, and I plan to use them more for hiking this spring. Water proof and look good just wearing with jeans on the town good.

UPDATE: 6/1/10.. went on a 7-8 mile hike in Shenandoah the other day.. By the last mile my legs were toast.. but not a single bit of discomfort or soreness from my feet during or after the hike.. I didn't realize they would work THAT well.

Also the waterproof aspect works like a charm too, I had to try it.. wedging my feet between rocks underwater to get sure footing since the tops were all slippery.. of course this is less than ankle deep water, as nothing would keep the water out of the top

Raichle.........Made in China???

By:
December 24, 2010

After striking out on a deperate search throughout the US for a duplicate replacement pair for my 3 year old REI (Raichle) Mt. Trail XT GTX boots, I settled on the Explorer GT. I could tell in the first second holding this boot that something was markedly different, and cheaper, from the boots I have worn and loved the past 3 years.

If I had wanted cheap Chinese fabricated shoes, I would have ordered Columbias. I never in my wildest dreams expected this from Raichle.

comfortable and well built

I have been wearing these boots for about a month now as my everyday winter footwear. It has Gore-tex so it can get kind of wet on the inside. I am planning on using these for trekking in Patagonia where the ground will be wet so the Gore-tex is okay. What I like best about these boots is that they are really soft. I jogged a few miles in them and no blisters and they are light so I felt I might as well been wearing tennis shoes.
