    Incredibly light, versatile, and durable.

A trustworthy insulation layer is indispensable in any winter outdoor pursuit. You need to be certain that it will keep you warm and comfortable even when wet, and it needs to be versatile enough to perform multiple duties. The high-tech Mammut Eigerjoch Light Insulated Jacket fits this description, and is perfectly suited for backcountry and mountaineering expeditions in winter climates.

The outer fabric on this jacket is the venerated Pertex Quantum, a featherweight, wind blocking, water resistant, breathable material. Polartec Powerstretch panels on the sides and back combined with high-reach sleeves and thumb loops give the jacket exceptional range of motion when you're reaching overhead. The extremely breathable, lightweight, and fast-drying Polartec Alpha insulation is very effective at regulating body temperature during high-exertion and stop-and-go activities.

Due to the design of this jacket and the exceptional robustness of the Pertex Quantum fabric, The Eigerjoch can be worn either as an insulation layer or as an outer layer in the place of a softshell. Two concealed hand pockets and a zippered chest pocket provide storage if indeed the jacket is being used as outerwear.

    Ups and downs

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large

I got this coat as a Spring/Fall windbreaker for my cycling rides (usually like 20-30mi) and just a general around town coat.

    Pros:
-It's great for cycling because of the long sleeves and thumb holes - it won't ride up on your arms.
-It's also very sharply styled. It's drawn a lot of compliments from people.
-It's very fitted for the ectomorphic, long/lean type of frame. I'm shaped like that so it fits like a glove. If you are a stocky, muscular build, this won't fit you no matter the size.

    Downsides:
-It just isn't very warm. Anything under 40F/5C and you're in trouble. It's significantly less warm than my older, similar style Stoic jacket.
-Quality is subject - see my photo. Stuffing is coming out of this thing with only about 25-30 wears on it. At this price, that's not acceptable. Zippers are also questionable and get stuck on occasion.

    Warm, lightweight, agile multitasker

We love this top - it's a great mid layer that doubles up as a light outer layer when moving up in the alpine.

    We love:

    1) stretchy side panels that allow freedom of movement and heat escape

    2) super warm core insulation

    3) lightweight and packs small

    4) extremely flattering fit!

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small

Slim fitting (definitely order one size up), comfortable, great pockets (easily stow gloves/hat if it gets chilly or your activity level changes) and looks great with the bright color accents (I bought the black one. Not many people own a lightweight full zip that is this attractive).
