Softshell protection for climbing.

The Mammut Brisk Softshell Jacket with WindStopper is windproof and breathable. This light-weight jacket will block alpine gusts while remaining breathable, which means you can enjoy your climbs, ski tours, or snowshoe treks without freezing. The stretchy material allows for freedom of movement to place your next cam. Vented underarms assist with the breathability if things heat up on the big walls.

Light yet STOPS the wind

  • Gender: Male
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Awesome jacket. European, so runs a bit smaller than US brands. Fabric feels great. Options (like pit zips... THANK YOU) are welcome. I did fit in a M, but got the L for longer sleeves and some room for layering. Backcountry sent both and it was a close call. Either would work, but they'd behave differently. I'm 6'0" 160lbs, long arms.

Absolutely unexpected use: On a recent motorcycling trip in the fall, I had my mesh armor jacket on, but it was getting kinda chilly at 8k feet going 65MPH... so I pulled on the Mammut and ... no more wind. None. I don't have a windscreen, so the jacket was getting pounded with wind at, well, 65mph. That sealed the deal for me. This goes everywhere with me now.

Nice stretch to fabric. Thin but warm for how thin it is. I have a Marmot pullover windstopper and I MUCH prefer the Mammut for the full zip, more generous fit, pit zips, and pockets.

Probably. Mammut runs a bit smaller than other brands. A large should fit you.

SO GOOD

Such a nice jacket! windproof, 12 oz, pit zips, awesome cut, design, stretch, durability. i layer up and wear it all over snowboarding, climbing, and in the windy winters to the bar. so happy, if they made a hooded version that was almost as light weight it would be heaven for mountain climbing

How does the Brisk compare in warmth and pack-ability/lightness versus the Marmot Driclime Windshirt or Catalyst jackets?

By spec it's only a couple oz heavier...I love an ems-version of the windshirt that I have for its warmth, versatility, and lightweight pack-ability, but it's time for a replacement, and this jacket looks interesting for the extra stretch and perhaps nicer feel? Feedback?

If you just want a windshirt, check out the Stoic Wraith. It's 2.5 oz, and blocks the wind to about 30 mph. Because this is Gore Windstopper, it won't breathe nearly as well as non-membrane softshells. If you want something with some insulation, but still breathable, look at jackets made with Polartec Powershield.

Strong jacket!!

This jacket has held up well over lots of use and abuse over the last few years. I use this at work in the winter and with gear and armor rubbing on it the whole time there are no signs of deterioration at all. I would recommend this jacket to anyone looking for a jacket that not only lasts well, but also do this with comfort.

Strong jacket!!

The Best

I have owned a dozen softshells. This is the best. Not much else to say. Okay, if you are American (or Canadian) the zipper is on the wrong side ... otherwise this is the best.

so far so good

i am loving this jacket so far. Only had it a few days. I have used it mountain biking and bouldering and it preformed awesome. Size is great. I am 5'8, 135lbs and I got the small. Anyone have any recommendations for a Mammut jacket to layer over this one once winter gets here?

Brisk is Tight!

This material is awesome. Quality throughout, and the arm pit zipper vents are what takes this over the top. This is a versatile garment that can be used over a thin bottom layer or over a vest on a late season powder run. In warmer climes the wind stopper material might actually be too warm, but that's where the arm pit zipper vents come in. Thumb holes on the sleeves keep it real. This is definitely a good high country cool front breezy day garment. The red is just that, red. Thought it might have had more orange or a some fade in it but it's pretty red. Had I been shopping off the rack I might have taken the blue or black instead.

Sweet Threads!

I love this jacket. It's advertised as a mid-layer but in lots of conditions it works as a top layer too. When the sun comes out it doesn't add a lot of weight to my pack and the windstopper is great for alpine hiking. Awesome jacket to wear anytime, not just on the trail. It ain't to hard on the eyes either!

Super sweet soft shell

Wow is all I have to say. Great new jacket form those crazy Swiss. Nice Windstopper fabric is softer and lighter and more breathable than my old Ultimate Hoody. Fit is great, pit zips and cool zipper with fade color which I didn't notice until it showed upo but looks great. Best part is the price. Usually you don't find any Winstopper jackets like this at over $200 but at $179 from Mammut an absolute steal. Get yourself one!
