Code: WINTER20

Description

In cold conditions, nothing protects like a puffy.

When things get really chilly, zip up the Women's Mammut Biwak Down Jacket for the unmatched warmth of 800-fill goose down. The innovative double chamber construction eliminates the cold spots that typically plague down jackets, and Fibrefill body mapping inserts on the back and underarms work to transfer perspiration to where it can evaporate. Adjust the hem and hood for a snug fit, then enjoy the scenery on freezing cold days that would have normally sent you running for shelter.

  • The Pertex Endurance shell fabric resists water and is highly compressible so you can pack this puffy for winter trips
  • 800-fill goose down keeps you warm in the bitter cold of the high mountains
  • Innovative double chamber construction eliminates cold spots in the jacket
  • Fibrefill body mapping inserts on the back and underarms transfer moisture to where it can evaporate
  • Three-point hood adjustment system ensures a perfect fit with or without a helmet
  • Lycra hand gaiters seal around wrists to keep snow out
  • Adjustable hem with a mini-skirt seals around the hips and won't ride up

Dear Puffy,

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

Dear Puffy,

I am writing this to let you know how much you mean to me. Though I've only been with you for a short time, I truly do not know how I survived the brutality of winter before you came along and changed my life.
Before you, winters were a dark, sad time when I dreaded going out into the world. Now, because of you I have an entirely different perspective of winter. I can now venture into the frigid cold and pursue whatever adventures I please without fear because I know you will be there to protect me. You are truly the warmest jacket I have ever had the pleasure to wear, and I am proud to call you mine.

Thank you for your warmth and protection, and I look forward to many cold-weather adventures with you in the future.

Love always,
An Obsessed Gearhead

Light weight and warm!

Light weight and warm!

Frigid early morning in the Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan. The Biwak did an excellent job at keeping me warm and was light to carry.

Great Jacket

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: Runs large

This is a great winter jacket. I am 5'11 and about 145 pounds and I ordered a small. I like my jackets to fit a bit more on the snug side, and the Size small does, but it does not feel too constricting. I can wear a thin base-layer underneath with another (thinner...such as silk polyester fabric) long-sleeved shirt over the base; all under this jacket, zipped up comfortably.
I live in Connecticut and this jacket is very, very warm. I've worn it when the temps dropped down into the teens and single digits and it's been great against wind, sleet, and cold in general.
I love that it has so many pockets and compartments to store things. I can keep my car keys and cell phone in one pocket and it does not cause the pocket to look awkward and bulging out with "things." It also keeps the hands warm (the pockets). The length of the arms is perfect too.
The little mesh bag that comes with the Biwak down jacket is a nice feature. I wore the jacket to the airport the other morning (it was 7 degrees), by the time I landed; I was too warm and I scrunched up the jacket and put it in it's little mesh bag. After sitting in the bag for a couple days, the jacket was really wrinkled, but after hanging up for one night, all the wrinkles were gone.
The fabric is smooth and is not quite as bright (I got the pink) as the color of the picture.
One (tiny) thing that bothers me: when I first looked at this jacket I noticed black "marks" on the fabric. At first glance, I thought this was black ink from a pen, but upon further inspection, realized that's just how it looks, due to the feathers inside. It actually has these little black "specks" all over, and while I don't LOVE that, I'm used to it now and no longer really think it looks like stains or marks. Just looks like part of the jacket. I think one way to avoid this altogether would have been to order the jacket in black.
Overall, very satisfied. I have never spent this much on one jacket before but worth every penny!

Really Nice...I love It!!

  • Gender: Female
  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We have a lot of down in our house...Mont-Bell, Westcomb, TNF, Feathered Friends and now Mammut. Our dog torn an enormous hole in the arm of my FF Elia jacket (which I love and wear all the time and recomend to anyone). We like to buy stuff made in North America, but we went ahead and bought this in spite of it being made in China. Am I glad we did. It's super light, comfortable, roomy in all the right places, looks really nice and the back drops to about the middle of my butt (I'm 5'1" and 115lbs), which is awesome on cold New York mornings on my leather car seats. I got the small, it's a little big without layering under, but perfect with layers under...making it just the right size. It's puffy and warm, but isn't as bulky and Michelin Man-y as my FF jacket (which isn't a Michelin Man jacket to begin with). I just love it, and never want to take it off!!

BEST down jacket we have ever seen!!

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit: True to size

.....As Shania Twain would sing....."Feel like a Women"......My wife wears this coat every day. From my perspective, it is a fabulous fit on her ;) - and she would agree. This is not just another bulky down coat made for men that is being marketed to women. It is compressed, hourglass shaped, and sleek looking on my wife. The longer length that partially covers the butt makes for warmer days on the lift at Jackson Hole or Grand Targhee Resorts. She wears this to drop kids off at school as a car coat, for lift skiing, and as a down back-up for after a good long skin in the back country. It has crazy lightweight packability and goes in this great little tiny stuff sack. The water resistant aspect is key for any day. She seldom wears a hat as the hood has a perfect secure fit. With the 800 fill, this coat is essentially a wearable lightweight sleeping bag. The color is through the roof awesome with amazing turquoise accents and crazy bright, great Mammut orange logo on the upper sleeve! For a happier winter day (in case you weren't happy enough) - wear the Mammut Biwak!!

Love the shape on this jacket : )

Clockwise from top left:
- detail view of gaiter
- sticky elastic grippers on waistband
- size when stuffed in included sack
- included stuff sack

Note: This jacket could definitely be compressed smaller than what you see in the view above when compared to a Nalgene bottle. It could easily be squished quite a bit more to save space in a pack or when traveling. (Also doubles as a fairly luxe pillow) : )

Does the jacket have a double zipper? I...

Does the jacket have a double zipper? I have to say it comes quite handy when you want to put a jacket on top of a harness.

Love me a Mammut

I like that this jacket is on the PUFFIER side of puffy, but isn't overly marshmellowy in appearance. It's a fine, fine line, but I think the Biwak doesn't cross into Michelin Man territory.

Unreal!

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times
  • Fit: True to size

I only enjoyed the chance to wear this jacket for one day, but boy oh boy do I want one now! It's incredibly comfortable, the outer fabric has a really smooth, silky texture to it. The pockets are generous in size with easy zippers. Though I think my favorite part was the wrist gaiters. They are a soft, stretchy fabric that is incredibly comfortable. (I liked them infinitely more than the gaiters featured on Norrona products). I normally don't love gaiters, but these ones were just excellent.

The hood is generous in size, it easily accommodated my ski helmet.
The jacket itself is very warm (duh...of course it is). I was waiting atop a peak in the Wasatch for sunset, and couldn't feel the slight breeze, nor the cold. Used this jacket for battling cold for 3 hours at an OUTDOOR movie premier in Tahoe - when I left the car at 7pm the thermo was reading 28 degrees. When we left around 10, my core was still warm and toasty - WARM JACKET - YES.

This jacket is fairly packable, though not so much as other, thinner down jackets out there (i.e. the Patagonia Down Sweater), but it's also much warmer. I think this would be a sweet pick for Mountaineering trips, winter/ice climbing or skiing in frigid climates.

*Pockets are HUGE, super nice feature and function for packing snacks, valuables, ski straps, lip balm - etc.

I've been shopping for a down jacket for a while now (9 months!!!) and I will be waiting until this jacket hits shelves next year so I can grab my size.
This was love at first use.

DID IT !!! PULLED THAT TRIGGER!!

A Mammut rep told me once this jacket is gone - it's gone, so I snapped it up since my size is finally in stock again. I'm SO excited to be the proud owner of this piece of puff.

I forgot to mention that this jacket is definitely a long and lean fit. There is a generous swoop in the back to keep your bum warm, and it is rather long in length when compared to other down jackets out there. The jacket also comes with a REALLY nice stuff sack - that thing is legit. It's honestly more tricked out than some of the stuff sacks our sleeping bags come with.
Nice Mammut!

I will update on durability once I've had a chance to properly evaluate it through skiing and adventuring around.
