Explorist 310 North America GPS

The Magellan Explorist 310 North America GPS keeps you oriented to your whereabouts when you're exploring back road routes and trail-less sections of wilderness. Housed in a rugged, waterproof case, the Explorist 310 can be fully submersed, without compromising its performance. The GPS comes pre-loaded with a World Edition map, which includes major road networks in North America and Western Europe as well as rivers, lakes, parks, cities, and land use types. If you do plan on using the GPS for on- and off-trail exploration, detailed topo maps can be uploaded to the GPS. The Transflective color screen allows you to use the screen in direct sunlight, while the two AA batteries will power the GPS for 18 hours; a suspend mode turns off all features on the GPS, except GPS tracking, extending battery life on those multi-day adventures.

A host of features on the Explorist 310 allows you to track distance covered, average speed, elevation gained and lost, and paperless geo caching. The paperless geo caching feature allows users to download unique characteristics of caches including name, location, description, size, hints, and spoilers. Once you do get home, the NMEA message output allows you to connect the GPS to a computer with VantagePoint software to see exactly where you went on a map.
