She loves her shoes

By:

I'll start this by saying that this is my eight-year-old's first pair of climbing shoes. She's tried on a few of the others - La Sportiva, and the Five Tens. We chose these ones because she had previously climbed in them, and, to be honest, because they were cheaper. The result, however, is that she is thrilled to climb in them whenever we go because they are HER shoes. It's a little thing, but if it gets her more excited about climbing, then it may make a difference in her wanting to stay in the sport. Time, and her increased skills and awareness of how the shoe fits, can then dictate whether she wants these shoes again, or if it is time to try a different pair. But for a first pair of shoes, they are doing exactly what we hoped they would do - keep this little girl stoked about climbing.

My daughter is a size 12.5 and her foot fits nicely in youth size 1. For kids I recommend a size up especially since they grow so fast.

Cheap and effective

I have twin ten year old girls, and I bought these for them. I like the idea of both adjustment points, and the one at the heel doesn't seem to bother either of them. I haven't had any problems with the shoes wearing out, and that even includes the fact that my kids have just started and are still learning about proper footwork. For the most part, if I am going to buy shoes for the kids, to be honest, my first motive it cheapness. They are kids and the shoes will either be grown out of quickly or worn out quickly. Nothing against 5.10 or other brands, but if I can save 20 bucks, then that is 20 more dollars I can spend on other gear. Once the kids learn about rock climbing, learn proper footwork, and consistently enjoy going out and doing it, then I will think about getting something a little more expensive.

Is this shoe wider in the toebox than the 5.10 kid's Moc?

Is this shoe wider in the toebox than the 5.10 kid's Moc? I bought the moc for my 6-year-old niece and she had hot spots on her big toe and pinkie toe.

My kids have not complained of any hot spots, but then again, they are still wearing their shoes with socks.

Don't expect these to fit like adult climbing shoes. I have small feet for a woman (size 6), so I buy kids shoes all the time, and I thought it was worth a try for the price. I got a size 4 and it was probably the right size in length - maybe I could've gone a little smaller - but the toe didn't fit snug at all. I don't have narrow feet either. You can tighten the sides with the velcro, but not the toe area. And tightening the heel kinda hurt. If your kid has wide feet or just wants some comfortable rubber, they're not bad, but that wasn't quite what I was looking for.

I've bought a ton of kids climbing shoes. When I found these I thought I had found the holy grail. Unfortunatly the holy grail turned out to be made of tin. Almost immediatly the uppers on the toes started wearing out in a weird way. Wierd as in disolving. It's too bad. I like the idea of the adjustable strap at the heel for growing feet. They just don't last long enough for them to grow through. I've since tried Mini Mocs which have proved to be very well thought out and even have the toe protected for those who drag their young feet. Both my kids are in the 5.10's now.

Mel,Most kids are so pumped to get on the wall, they dont focus on using a climbing shoe. Mad rock and other manufacturers offers kids shoes starting at kids size 11 through kids 5. So youll probably need to wait till your daughter is 4 or 5. ------------I taught a class this summer to 3-year-olds, and the smallest sizes of these shoes definitely helped them. it's never too early to start on footwork. Another shoe you could look at is the La Sportiva Shark, which is what we use and fit the 3-year-olds very well.
