Great pad

  • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This pad is great. I've bouldered with it, and when it's not being used as a crash pad in the climbing sense, it serves as a crash pad "couch" in the practical sense. I will just as happily bail out onto this pad as I will crash on it for the night. And some of the money goes toward HERA, so what's not to love?

Foam wears out.

Foam wears out.

After 5 years of abuse our Hera is too mushy to be trusted on high balls but still works for most problems. This is me ~160lbs on one foot standing to show compression. The foam is much firmer when new.

No wistles, no bells, no big price tag.

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Pretty good pad for the money. It doesn't last as long as the metolius or organic pads. Its going mushy but for the price it has lasted long enough. The hera is even a little lighter than the Mad Pad.

Put them together!

Wow. This pad is so good that we bought two and they actually velcro together. This is an incredibly innovative option considering all of the risks involved in bouldering, and falling. Adjusting mats and looking for gaping ankle breaking holes is down to a minimum with this reliable pad.
I would definietly recommend this bad boy to everyone, I want all my spotter to be hiking in with these.

Is it safe to do flips on this mat?

It's designed to provide a small measure of safety for bouldering. Whether it's safe to flip onto it is up to you and your balls. However, if you plan to use the pad to learn how to flip, don't.

Love it

I love this crash pad. It's light, but still thick enough that I felt super safe when falling. I recommend it highly!

Awesome

This pad is great, everything you could ask for in a standard pad. Great coverage for the money, cool color, and it helps out a great cause. Can't go wrong here!

Probably the best pad for those looking to pick up their first pad, I highly recommend it. As far as bottoming out in the gutter, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm not saying it can't happen, but I've fallen on the seam countless times and have yet to roll an ankle.

Are there backpack-style straps?

Yes. In the product details it lists backpack straps.

for the price: unbeatable.

The pad is solid. For the money I challenge you to find a better pad -- because that would be the pad I would want. This pad will give you the largest surface area and thickness of any pad. Slim chance to bottom out in the middle but unless you want to pay for a high end pad the seam problem is something everyone has to deal with on every pad so one can't fairly hold that against the Hera. Buy it, use it, have fun.
