Impossible heel-hooks and cracks become your specialty when you slip on the Mad Rock Con-Tact Climbing Shoe. Made with Mad Rock’s Science Friction 2.2 rubber, this sensitive slip-on was designed for bouldering, training, or any situation where you need to smear it or hook it.

  • The dual-density sole is stiffer around the rim than in the center, so you can get a strong hold every time
  • Concave soles grab like monkey feet and angles your toes for the tiniest holds
  • Texture-molded heel cup lets you heel-hook like Sharma
  • Science Friction Power upper extends the life of your shoe and sticks great on toe hooks and overhangs
  • Organically grown hemp lining naturally guards against stanky microbe growth and is strong as all get-out
  • Removable Power Strap secures your heel for hooking, and without the nylon hook-and-loop webbing, the Con-tact becomes more flexible for faces and longer problems

Bottom Line: Be Captain Heel-Hook in a sea of boulders.

First Pair

I've been climbing with these for months, and I love them. They're my first pair of shoes so maybe I just don't know any better. The only problem is that I have had them slip off on a heel hook, but only once and I did take the strap off. They tend to rub a little at the the Achilles's after long use.

Bang for the Buck!

By:
April 4, 2010

First look gave me the impression that the Con-series shoes were simply re-designed versions of the Hooker series. But upon closer examination and stuffing me toes in them told me that they are radically different in terms of last and camber. A couple of sessions in them made me realize that they are poles apart from my previous Shark slipper. Personally loved the Sharks for their softness and sick toe-hooking rubber uppers but they were kinda on the broad side for my feet and the rounded toe box didn't particularly favor tiny pockets. However, the Contact is a different animal altogether. Firstly, this slipper fit like a glove, leaving me skinny feet with no dead space. The radical camber create a beak-like point at the area of the big toe and this allowed me to focus alot of power onto the tip of the shoe when pinpointing on tiny foot chips thus bumping up precision a couple of notches. Furthermore, these puppies performed pretty well on pockets and with the new rubber, I didn't feel like my feet was ever gonna give on slick foot holds.

As with any slipper, the Contact has all the wonderful properties of convenience for bouldering and softness for toe grabbing on steep overhangs. But the softness and ease of putting it on comes at a price.....you'll need a strong foot if you plan on standing on your toes for extended periods of time on longer routes. When it comes to heel-hooking, the aggressive teeth on the heel are probably the best in the business cos it literally will rip the heelcup right off your foot.....so either downsize (Ouch!) or keep the Mad straps on. Plus being priced below $90, it's a real bang-for-the-buck!

I would downsize 1/2 to a full size being that they are full leather and will stretch a lot.

I have climbed in them a few times and really enjoy the aggressive style of the shoe. The heel action is nice and I can't wait wear them again and again and again.

Very Nice

So these were my first slipper. Great choice I'd say. Molded to my feet after two weeks and did not stretch a ton even though the uppers are leather. Mad Rock's signature heel is as burly as it looks, and even without the strap they give you my foot stayed in the shoe. Super aggressive. Anything you're working on in the gym will come easier with these.

Drawback. After three weeks the rubber tore out at the bottom. I was pissed, but one quick email to Mad Rock got me a replacement pair. Hopefully it was just a factory weakness.

Bottom line you can't beat the price for these great slippers

Sticky Situation

By:

You wont be disappointed with these shoes. I had one bouldering route I just couldn't finish with my Mad Rock Muegens. With these that outstretched toe stuck on the first try. I also am finding that gnarly heel to be extremely handy. Best of all is these shoes are comfy for how aggressive they are.

have had these for about three to four months. the fit is amazing, it is a little hard to get into to them but theres a trick that you will learn after having them for awhile. every time you climb the dye from the shoe will stain your skin bright red. the toe is really sticky and i love the strap it really tightens the shoes around my foot. great for bouldering will grab just about anything. great shoe great price
