The Mellow Heat Warming Embrocation from Mad Alchemy has a groovy, kicking back sort of warmth. It's perfect for loosening tight muscles with steady, long-lasting warmth. Use it for your legs, your back, and even your neck if you desire. Think warm bath.
This embrocation is the cornerstone of Mad Alchemy's lineup. It's for those days when you're contemplating knee warmers, but aren't quite sure. We'd rub it in when the temperature drops below 60° or so. It's for those days that you'd rather go without the knee sleeves. The Mellow affords you that ability. Rub it in; enjoy the sunshine even if it's cloudy. Show those knees.
As with other Mad Alchemy embro's, this one is based on grapeseed and rapeseed oils, with some shea butter and unbleached beeswax mixed in for the smooth texture. The warmth comes from the inclusion of capsicum annuum, and a mix of essential oils gives it a gentle, tingly aroma.

- Q & A
good to always have some on hand
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This is my first experience with embrocation. It’s not something I need very often living in Southwest Florida. However, I’m glad to have it because it is useful once in awhile when the temp dips below 70. I use latex gloves to apply it. It goes on easily and smoothly and it has a great scent. At first you’ll feel a slight warmth and tingling sensation and then it kicks in more as you ride. You’ll feel it during and after a shower too. It gets hot but nothing unbearable although the mellow heat was plenty hot for me. I wouldn’t want to use anything stronger than this. It definitely keeps my legs warmer and more protected than they’d would be bare and it’s more comfortable than knee or leg warmers. The only downside aside from the high price is that your legs will attract lots of grime and you need to cautious not to touch them and then your eyes.
Great for 60-70 deg
- Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
I got some straight from the mad alchemy scientist at a local cyclocross event in CO this past weekend. I have the summer (no heat), Coffee hot (all I can take) and then this mellow version. Its been in the 60's lately and it works great. The coffee/hot version was just too much for 60 deg so this fills in the gap. No knee warmers if using this stuff. I have never tried the super hot version but I can only imagine the pain and agony if its not in the 20-30's or less!! Get hot, mellow and summer and your set! Use good amount as this stuff lasts forever.
