Used it to travel Africa for 6 months

  • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this bag. I took this and a small timbuk2 messenger (like the tiny tiny one). This was my main bag and I fit my clothes and souvenirs while the Timbuk2 bag carried my day-trip essentials. The camera compartment fit my Nikon D7000 and several lenses and small camera accessories. It worked great. I attached scarves and a towel rolled up on the bottom clip straps and that was great. The rain cover helped when we were walking through a heavy heavy rain storm in South Africa.

My only complaint is that after about 3 months, the zipper for the camera compartment broke! I mean, I rode it hard, but 3 months? I keep meaning to contact LowePro for replacement/repair options but I keep forgetting. I haven't used the bag much since then, but that's because I gave up my camera. I like to trail run a lot, so if I still had my DSLR, I would use this on trails for sure.

Also, size wise, I am a 5' 4" 120lb female and I really loved the fit of this bag (I know the other reviewer said that being a big dude, it was a little small, which is probably right)

Great Pack, But...

  • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

This is a great camera backpack if your camera is a consumer-size DSLR such as the Canon Rebel EOS. However, if your camera is a pro size, such as a Canon 5D, this pack is simply too small. Further, I'm 6'3"and 215 lbs - this pack is comparatively so small it looks like a girls backpack on me - kind of ridiculous. One additional wish for this or any other camera back pack (attention Lowepro...) is to make the hydration compartment large enough to accommodate a 15" laptop. The reality is that sometimes people are hiking, and at other times they're traveling on a plane for vacation and want to take a notebook along. Having a pack that could handle both tasks would be a stroke of genius and differentiate your brand.

Does this pack conveniently carry trekking poles and tripod? If so, where?
