Women, put those scissors down—Lowe Alpine already eliminated useless features and used lightweight fabrics on the Sirocco Hyperlite Backpack, so you won't have to perform backpack lypo to try and cut weight. But the Sirocco isn't some glorified sack with straps. This 60L multi-day pack features a stripped down version of Lowe's APS fit system, which easily adjusts to fit your torso length, so you don't have to carry a pack designed for “the average” backpacker. This backpack has a plush hip-belt for heavy load transfer, reducing shoulder strain during that week-long foray into the backcountry. A lower compartment separates your sleeping bag, and two internal pockets in the lid keep small items like maps, sunscreen, and snacks organized. For short, ultra-light trips, take off the hip-belt to shed even more weight, and for longer adventures, expand the top portion to gain an extra 10L of storage space.

Bottom Line: Shed backpack pounds—not useful features.

What's the best way to strap a sleeping pad to this pack?

What's the best way to strap a sleeping pad to this pack? Are there straps on the bottom, or do people strap it vertically on the back?

Even if you're pad doesn't fold in half, you can strap it underneath the lid. I'd prefer this to on the bottom if you have some sort of luxurious heavyweight pad for better weight distribution.
As long as its not very heavy (just a basic foam pad) strap it to the side under the compression straps.
This works better if you are hiking anywhere that it might catch on anything.
Whatever you do don't strap it vertically on the back. It will leverage your backpack and you'll have to lean forward a very small but unnecessary amount.

I prefer to use a sleeping pad that folds in half, like the Thermarest Prolite 3 or 4 and put it under the hood on top of the pack. If that doesn't work because your pack is too full, then a couple of straps through the accessory loops on the bottom compartment will do the trick for a horizontal mount. (the small dark gray ones above the big light gray guys there)
