Ice axes rest securely in Lowe's proprietary HeadLocker system so you can freely climb without accidentally self-arresting on the concrete. Throw your ropes or crampons under the lid so inner pack space remains available for important stuff like 'biners and beverages. If the going gets tough and you must separate from your pack, thread a rope through the grab handle and lash loops and pull your precious gear to safety. These can also be used if you find yourself in need of a crevasse rescue.
