Engineered specifically for a woman's frame and with 35liters of cargo space for your mountaineering gear, Lowe Alpine's Alpine Ascent Pro ND Backpack keeps you going for a day in winter's wonderland. Compared to the men's packs, the Alpine Ascent Pro ND's narrower, shorter back complements a female torso, and an adjustable hip-belt allows for a secure fit. Pack your rope, extra clothes, and snacks inside the Alpine Ascent Pro ND Pack, secure your skis to the outside, and hit the trail. Lowe Alpine's interior pockets make it easy to find your gear when you reach technical sections, and this winter pack's exterior axe loops keep your ice axe accessible. The Alpine Ascent Pro ND pack's molded back feels comfortable throughout the day.

Bottom Line: Lowe Alpine engineered the Alpine Ascent Pro ND 35L technical winter pack for all you mountaineering gals.

I would like to use this as a winter pack. Does it have a shovel

I would like to use this as a winter pack. Does it have a shovel pocket? Also it says that it has ski carry loops, but doesn't say how, is it A-frame or diagonal??

It doesn't have a specific shovel pocket, no, so you'll have to put your shovel inside your pack where it's won't get ripped off the pack during an avalanche. As for ski carry, the pack is best suited to an A-frame carry - that's how the webcatcher straps are placed.

Best Women's Specific climbing pack

I love this pack for climbing, it rocks even more since it is women specific (come on guys, we aren't built like you). Since I am not a lead climber, I always get to haul the ropes. After trying many different packs over the last couple of years, I finally tried this one. It was by far large enough for all my gear (and dog gear) inside. The rope compressor made it easy to carry the rope and still be able to access my gear in the pack. The lid pockets were great for the small stuff I needed to access quickly and to stash my ID and car keys with out losing them (again). All in all, this pack was superbly comfortable, carried a load of approx. 40 lbs, and has held up well to life at the crags. I would recommend it to anyone in a heart beat.

Can this pack hold a shovel?
Can it be used as easily for light backpacking trips as well as back country skiing?

Absolutely. Depending on how your equipped, this pack is borderline for no more than two nights out but great for a cross country ski trip.
