New boots without the prolonged break in time.

New boots are nice, but two miles into your first hike your feet will be begging for your worn in (and out) old boots. Luckily, the Lowa Men's Vantage GTX Mid Hiking Boots are quick to break in, so you can tie them on and keep on hiking as you did before. Featuring a Gore-Tex membrane, the boots provide the waterproof, breathable performance needed for mountain environments. A durable split leather upper resists wear and is reinforced with TPU in the toe and heel for increased durability. A PU midsole cradles your feet over miles of rough and rocky terrain, while a light yet tacky Trac Lite sole ensures solid traction on dirt, rock, and mud.

    Excellent boots

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: 10

I was skeptical on buying these over the Renegade's because of the lack of reviews on this and other websites, but I'm glad I did. The lacing system does a great job. I wore these on two hiking trips and then got a new job where I now wear these 40 hours a week stocking merchandise and they are fantastic. If you're on the fence, go for it.

    Excellent Boots

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size

I've put these boots to the test: flat trail, steep trail, off trail, scramble, talus, speed hiking, slow hiking and just standing around giving a belay. They're awesome.

Perfect design balance for comfortable walking (just enough forward roll and flex for 20+ mile trail days) and challenging terrain performance (grip and mid sole stiffness for summit scramble).

Fit is right on. I use a heel lock lacing technique and sock liners. Result is zero heel lift and no hot spots. Plenty of toe box space for comfortable descents.

Nice job, Lowa. You've got a long term customer.

    Straight out of the box

I've been using these as an approach boot for the snow and they are fitting the bill nicely. No break in was noticed, though it has all been single day use at either end of the day to get me to the snow line and back from the trail head. I like the toe box as it has just the right amount of space to keep them happy even with sustained down hill walking with all my gear. Going up there is no heel lift, which means no blisters! Happy feet means the day starts and ends well.

    For the love of Boots!

I have to say, I've been used to some hiking boots that have had a great name, but the quality soon is proven otherwise! However, these Lowa's standout to me as an awesome and comfortable hiking boot! Very supportive in the ankles, but not so cushioned that it cuts off circulation. I love these boots for the "climate control system" they employ as well, I wear darn tough wool socks and my feet never have been super sweaty, or overly hot! I can't speak to the cold weather as of yet, but would predict that I won't have a single problem with being overly cold. Overall outer construction is excellent! Not just the design, which is attractive, but the quality of how they are built is flawless! I can't wait to take these on a long backpacking trip in September!

    Like a glove....for your foot.

The Lowa Vantage was the first boot in 6 shops and over 20 styles that fit the way a boot should fit out of the box. I might be picky but I am a firm believer in happy feet. If you choose a shoe/boot that fits with confidence and doesn't rub you the wrong way (in store rubbing and pressure points are just more problems on the trail). You can't walk the world with blisters and swelling....comfortably. These boots went on like a glove and after some time standing, walking, climbing and milling about - still that same glove as when I put them on. I was up in the air between these and a pair of Asolo's but after my feet settled there was no contest. The Lowa Vantage had enough spread in the toe-box to accommodate my wider foot without rubbing excessively on my big toe while maintaining a firm grip on my heel. There was little to no slippage as I walked up the inclines and as I stepped down the wedge I found no problems in the toe area. On top of a ridiculously comfortable upper that hugged my ankle without that cutting feeling in the achilles there was a confidence in my step (years of skateboarding and jumping around rocks has left me with weak ankles) that I had not felt in over 10 years. This boot shall live with me for some time...so I will return with a few hundred miles on them and let you know how they last!
