Combined with a waterproof, breathable GORE-TEX membrane, women’s-specific last, and a stiffer shank for extra support, the Renegade GTX is ready for miles of hiking on anything from gravel roads to boulder-strewn backcountry trails.

Let’s go!

Familiarity:

8

I am new to backpacking and purchased 3 pairs of boots to try out. I love the sporty boot style, but worried that I’d need more support with a heavy pack. Also want a boot that looks good so color and style make a difference for me. After trying them all on with my pack, lots of reading reviews and articles the grey green/panna Lowa’s were the easy choice. Happy to say that after many miles of backpacking it was the right choice. They now have a perfect fit to my foot, but it never felt like I was breaking them in, they were comfortable from the start. I ordered a half size larger boot based on sizing recommendations in hiking boot articles, and the 8 is a comfortable fit for my 7.5 size foot. Secure fit with thick or mid weight socks, they clean up nicely and keep my feet dry through water, muck, mud. Thank you Backcountry and Lowa for a great intro to backpacking!

Love these !!

7.5

I bought a pair for both my daughter and I. They were worth it. We went hiking sunny 3 times this past week and there were perfect. Also used them to the beach (Washington ) where it was cold so just wanted to see it. There were lots of rocks and of course wet. They worked perfectly and ARE waterproof. My entire foot was splashed by a huge wave. And another time we walked through a lake. Definitely kept our feet dry. I will be buying another pair for myself. I wear an 8 but the 7.5 fit me perfect. No blisters left.

Not waterproof at all

Poor quality boots. Not waterproof at all. My feet are soaked from walking across damp grass and stay wet all day.

Horrible

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I normally don't write negative reviews ..but I think these should come with a warning. This is my third pair of hiking boots, I thought I would give a more expensive brand a try since I hike every weekend. I have a pair of Columbia's that had zero break in time, I had a pair of cheap Amazon $50 foxellis that were fantastic and crazy comfy, zero break in time, never one blister. These left horrible blisters on the back of both ankles within 2 miles of my hike. There is a bump on the heel inside the shoe, and because the shoe is so stiff you cannot stop it from rubbing even with Band-Aids and tape. Also, because they are so stiff you constantly have to stop and tighten up the ankle when going uphill. There is nothing worse than having a gear failure so bad that you cannot finish your hike. And when I only have weekends to enjoy them, these boots made me very angry when I realized I had to turn around. Returned them. Horrible.

My everyday shoe after foot surgery

I got these for hiking - then in 2019 I had foot and ankle surgery, so they became my everyday shoe. I joke that these are my dress shoes, my flip-flops, my knock-around shoes and my slippers - I wear them all the time! I find that they run true to size - also, I have full-foot orthotics, which work great in them when I remove the original footbed (which is removable - no effort at all). After 6 years of owning them - with 2 ° years of everyday wear - they are wearing out. I bought two pairs this time - two fun colors - so I really can change my mind. I suspect these will last me twice as long because of alternating between the two. Can't wait to have fancy new shoes! By the way - I love the colors - and for me - you could even do more fancy colors!

Buyer Beware- Inferior Quality Product

I wore these boots for a year and found them to be quite comfortable. I took meticulous care of them, cleaning the leather and the soles after every hike, hoping that I would get years of good use out of them. When I was preparing to condition and waterproof them for the winter, with the Lowa brand conditioner and water proofing product, I noticed a tear in the fabric inside, where they are laced. I filled out a warranty claim and submitted it to Lowa, expecting that they would provide good customer service and offer to replace them, like other companies do, i.e., L.L. Bean. When I called Lowa Boots, the customer service rep informed me that the tear was considered "normal wear and tear" and that they would not fix them or send me a new pair. For the price of $240, I would expect these boots would have held up better than they did. I will never buy a Lowa product again. Poor quality. Poor customer support from Lowa Boots.

Love my Lowas!

This is my fourth pair of Lowa hiking boots, third in this style, and as always they are perfect and comfy right out of the box with no break-in time required. I wear a 7.5 in shoes and that's what I always get for these boots as well. My feet are on the narrower side and slightly long, with a high arch/instep. Some brands are too wide and too short for me, but Lowas are always just right. Lightweight but warm and supportive, they are great all year round, including most of our cold, wet Michigan winters. I switch to taller boots when the snow cover is more than ankle deep, but these are great for all the rest of the time. I wear them pretty much every day for hikes in the woods with my dogs, and they hold up pretty well. However they don't seem to last quite as long as the Bora model from a few years ago (my first Lowas). Each time, within a year, the toes on my two previous pairs of Renegades developed cracks and started to come apart, which makes them pretty much useless unless the weather is warm and dry, which this is Michigan so forget it. Pretty disappointing for such an expensive boot, as I'd definitely rather not have to replace them annually after wearing them for an hour or two a day in pretty non-punishing conditions. Compare that to my Boras which lasted me a good couple of years of regular use including several backcountry trips on rough terrain in Arizona, including the Grand Canyon. Still, I have yet to find anything else as comfortable or that meets my needs as well as these. The only other issue is that the laces come loose as I walk unless I double-tie them, which is annoying to have to do and makes it impossible to adjust the instep and ankle to different degrees of tightness (as previous pairs have enabled). The bottom of the three speedhooks does not hold them tightly enough, so if you like your fit looser at the instep and tighter around the ankle (which I do), forget it, because that hook won't hold it firmly enough to allow this and eventually the looseness will work itself all the way up until you have no ankle support whatsoever and you'll have to stop and fuss with it, which is annoying.

Nice boot - not true to size for me

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

I wanted to love these boots - my husband has a pair of Lowa's and my best friend also has a pair of Lowa's.(they both love them). I could not find a local place to purchase or even try them on. I wear an 8 1/2 Salomon - fit perfectly , several pair and styles, but I wanted a true backcountry backpacking boot - which Salomon does not appear to offer. So I took a chance on getting Lowa 8 1/2 - it was too small. I don't want to order the 9 without actually trying on some Lowa boots - because of the shipping / return timeline. My return was been received - but still not showing in my backcountry order history or my bank account... So I have to wait to get the right boots.

Wanted to love these boots but couldn't

I really wanted to love these boots as there are many great features about them. I took these on a 3-day backpacking trip recently and after the first day, they gave both my feet (the back of the heel region) blisters (in identical spots on both feet). They felt like they fit my foot everywhere else (I have fairly narrow feet), and my toes were not jamming into the front of the boot (even with thick wool socks). However, when I tried them on straight out of the package, I noticed that there was a sort of protrusion at the heel region inside the shoe (those should have been alarm bells!) that was just slightly rubbing against my heel when I walked around the house (not at all painful at the time). I think they were the right size (8 US) but the interior of the shoe at the heel just wasn't a great fit and rather odd. As a few pros: they are light, easy to put on and take off while being able to tighten properly with lacing, good ankle support, and waterproof.

I wear a Hoka One size 9 regular. I have a broad forefoot and narrow heal and a regular instep. I?m 52 yrs old, 152 lbs and 5?4. This boot was tight on my forefoot and seemed that I may need to either give up in this brand or style, or attempt to size up to a 9.5, which I?m hesitant to do because the arch placement on the 9 seems to hit correctly. This appears to be a boot made with quality materials and is just?plain cute, so I?m torn as to whether to give a 9.5 a try and waste $$$ on shipping.
