originally purchased some Scarpa Kailash wanted to like them but the boots lacked support and felt flimsy. a Backcountry rep recommended Lowa for stability and room in the toe box. he was right. i ordered the Rangers and knew the boot was right before i finished lacing. Rangers run true to size and offer excellent arch and ankle support. a no gimmick super sturdy all purpose boot. thank you Backcountry for the best customer support

Undoubtedly a high performance boot built for rough rugged terrain. Since my foot is begining to widen at the toe, the toe box on this boot was too narrow, which was not a problem related to the boot itself. Would clearly prefer this boot if available in greater widths.

They DO come in wider widiths, Backcountry just does not carry them. In fact BackCountry does not carry ANY wide width shoes!!! - HUH?. That's right, just send a note and ask them. They told me to buy Timberland or Vasque because they are made "wider" shoes in a D width. So us with wide feet don't have a choice, we have to settle for shoes we don't want. OK, done ranting - seriously, is that a good policy>

Go to Lowa.com, you will see these are made in a wide.

Bakers Shoes and Clothing has these in wide widths from what I saw. I know because I wanted a wide also - these are great boots!

What's the deal with so many places that sell hiking / packing boots stocking little to no wide sizes? Are they going to start stocking only sizes 7-11 also because they are the most common sizes? Ridiculous. I expected more out of BackCountry.

Great Performance

I have had these boots for one season now & I can't say enough about them. I normally don't wear a wide sized shoe or boot, but because I have been having trouble with the toe box on many hiking boots (too freakin' small), I decided to go the wide route. I was a little nervous about ordering a wide cut boot without first trying them on, but they fit very well when I received them.

I also purchased a pair of Sole Ed Viestur series footbeds for these boots. I wasn't overly thrilled with the footbeds that came with the boot (they are better than most though.) Since I added the Sole, these boots are beyond great. They are very comfortable for miles and miles of trekking/backpacking. I have used them with a 65 pound pack and did not feel a difference between that and no pack.

They are a sturdy, almost heavy duty boot. They are heavy and can be a little much for hot weather use. I've used them in the dead of summer and my feet sweat a lot in them. The waterproof Gore-Tex is great. I crossed a high river wearing them and no leaks, even after being briefly submerged.

If you notice on Lowa's website, the ladies version comes in a cool grey/black color. I wish Lowa would make these with color options. Besides that, very happy with my decision to go with Lowa.

Very comfortable

By:

I bought mine from campmor for an obscenely low price.

They are very comfortable and look great. Great deer, turkey boots. I suspect they will last very well.

They did need some breaking in so I wore them to work on rainy days for the first 3 months I had them. They still look spiffy enough to wear with khakis and a polo/sweater during the cold months.

I took out the stock foot bed and put in my superfeet and all is in order.

Probably stick with my Cabella mountain hunters for elk as they seem a little more supportive.

Lowa as a Work Boot

By:
November 2, 2009

I have wornout 4 pair in the last ten years. I don't bacpack but I walk the soles off of them before I retire them. Put heal plates on them and they will wear evenly. Never have I had a hot spot or foot problem. It's Lowa or nothing for me.!!!!
