A wind vest, only in a shirt.

The Louis Garneau SF-2 Plastron Baselayer virtually eliminates the need to wear a wind vest. The back of the SF-2 features Supra Filo 2 material to release perspiration while the front employs Light WindDry 2 fabric to shield your core from frozen winds, resulting in a truly revolutionary baselayer.

Very versatile, very effective

  • Familiarity:I've put it through the wringer
  • Fit:True to size

I wear this under both short and long sleeve jerseys in temps from the low 50s to mid 60s (lower than that I use the long sleeve version among other base layers). It's very effective at taking a jersey that otherwise works down to about 60 and making it comfortable close to 50.

I have other ss base layers that I like and which work well in their own right (Castelli sleeveless mesh and seemless ss mesh for instance), but for fighting a chill in the air this is the one. I've used it up to the high 60s and not been too hot, but as the evening cools into the 50s it's been perfect, and no need to bring a long a vest.

I'm 5'10 with a 40 in chest and medium is just right. Not skin tight but very close fitting allowing for another base layer on top if necessary.

This is one of the best pieces of clothing I own for fall and spring riding.

My Favorite Base Layer

When it's really cold out, this is the base layer I look for! Better than a wind vest, this shirt blocks wind from getting under your jersey to chill your the skin on your chest. The back is ventilated so heat doesn't build up. I have two of these that I use anytime the temperature is about 45 or lower....
