Better than a wind vest, really.

If you are going to stay warm during a late-season cross race, you need to layer with the Louis Garneau SF-2 Plastron Long-Sleeve Baselayer. Designed using Garneau’s Light WindDry 2 material, the front of the SF-2 Plastron features a wind- and water-stopping polyurethane membrane, and the back uses ultralight moisture-wicking material to expel excess heat and moisture. The ergonomic cut keeps the SF-2 Plastron from shifting in flight, and it won’t bunch up when hammering from the drops.

Good for wind, bad for breathability

I was very excited to give this shirt a try for cold fall riding. I'll give it another chance but my initial impression is so-so. The shirt is warm and blocks wind well. However, if you put in a strong effort on your ride and break a sweat, this shirt doesn't breath. Yes, it's a clever idea to have the back breathable, and the front wind resistant. However, I had a puddle of sweat on my chest after 10 miles. As a backcountry skier I understand the importance of base layers and sweat management. My initial impression is that this shirt is off in that area and maybe better for casual riding than a vigorous ride.

    Reduces chill factor

This is the first base layer article of clothing I have purchased so I don't have anything to compare it to. First, the sizing is slim. I'm a big guy and have to squeeze in and out of it. I knew it would be tight so I can't complain. The front has a form of plastic imbedded in it so it cuts the wind reasonable well. The cold still gets around to the back of my arms but it protects my torso which is what I really care about. The back is mesh so it breathes sufficiently. It's basically a backless windbreaker that you can wear under your jersey. Overall, it works but I don't recommend it for colder than 45 degrees or so.

My go to Base in the Mountains

I received one of these nice base layer this winter. I was traveling in Portland, Atlanta, Tucson, and Sun Valley. Surprisingly I used them all of these places. It works great under lots of layer in the snow in SV, or cold windchill on the rare mornings in Tucson. It is great to have in the arsenal. This is ideal for cold racing, when you want to stay just warm enough but it needs to breath. The front shield really keeps the chest and body warm but leaves the back open for sweat to evaporate.

leave the vest at home, zip your RealCyclist jersey up and just ride, no more fiddling with extra tops.

(did a guy from florida really review this before me??)

Recommended highly!!! Don't ride in the cold without it!

This is the last under garment for winter you will ever need! No joke! It keeps you super warm and dry. I used it everyday in training camp this winter which was a cold 20's to 30's. I don't think I would have made it through camp without it. It's ten first item I look to on cold days. It has a wind shield in the front on the chest and arms. While leaving the back of the arms and back open allowing moisture to flow away.
