Kids these days.
Just because a young cyclist isn't yet tall enough to graduate from 650c wheels doesn't mean that they should be stuck riding in gym shorts. The Louis Garneau Kids' Mondo Shorts help to make their first foray into serious cycling memorable for the pure joy of spinning, not for the discomfort of chamois-less shorts that keep getting caught on the nose of the saddle.
The Mondo for kids takes a few queues from the adult versions, incorporating some of the same Lycra materials that give the big-kid Mondos their gently compressive fit. They also feature lie-flat Powerband leg grippers, which hold the shorts in place without constriction. Frankly, we're jealous—these kinds of leg bands didn’t show up in our wardrobes until we were long accustomed to the pinching, bulky, uncomfortable elastic cuffs.
The shorts are finished with LG's Hero chamois, an insert tailored to provide comfort and support to young cyclists. The Hero represents another drastic departure from our first shorts. In some cases, our first chamois were literally strips of soft, unembellished leather, but the Hero's targeted zones of support and cushion make for a much more forgiving introduction to life in the saddle. Kids these days don't know how good they've got it, but—if popular wisdom is to be trusted—ensuring that the next generation has it better is the dream of all parents.
