Soft, durable merino wool gives you long-lasting comfort when you hit the trail with the Lorpen Merino Light Hiker Socks. Lorpen designed the toe seams with flat stitching to eliminate pressure points caused by ridges, and they added stretch Lycra to ensure a precise fit. The Merino Light Hiker Socks provide excellent performance even when wet, so they work if you accidentally step in a creek or sweat on a hot day on the trial.

Bottom Line: Lorpen delivers excellent fit and top performance in variable conditions with their Merino Light Hiker Socks.

Never Again

By:
January 13, 2012

I think that I might have last years model of these socks and they were super nice when I pulled them out of the package but after wearing them for a bit and a couple washes they started to pill up and fell apart. I don't have much confidence in Lorpen anymore but maybe they've changed their quality.

Again, nothing special fo this sock. They work with jeans, and are good to run with (under tights) for snowy runs. I like this company, and will continue to buy from them.

Very nice light-weight sock

By:
March 20, 2008

This sock has a lot of bells and whistles reserved for a more expensive sock. It has articulated weaving in the arch and heel, and a very snug, skin-like fit throughout the foot. It is very light, yet maintains a good level of padding and support. Well worth the price.

Great sock, but long

By:
January 1, 2010

I love the crew version of this sock, but the ones I got wear close to knee-high. This is a great weight for light backpacking, but if you are looking for something even more streamlined, check out the Lorpen Tri-Layer Light Hiker Crew Sock.

FYI, for whatever reason, after one wash, the length on these was a lot shorter than out of the box (a good thing, IMO).

favorite 'sock'

By:

I don't usually rate socks, but these are hands down the most comfortable socks I've worn. The merino wool is soft and the shape is supportive and the L fit me perfectly.

Good Stuff

This is a great sock, you can't go wrong with merino! It's the only thing I let touch my skin when I am in the backcountry whether its the summer or winter or anything between. Just a quick warning, these are 'light' hiking socks but I would not recommend them if it's hotter than like 75 degrees, they are a little thick but still wick away the moisture well and keep you cool. Merino's temperature control has to be experienced to be believed!

Great Merino's for the Toes!

By:
October 24, 2009

I have many pair of Lorpen socks and these are definitely my favorite for the summer. I've got 3 pair and put in over 250 miles this year alone in them up in the hills. They're holding up extremely well! These socks in particular are extremely thin and breathe very well. They are also very soft, typical of Merino, so there's not an itchy problem on your feet or legs. Everything from Lorpen fits true to size according to the chart backcountry.com provides.

Very bad

By:

I just took three pairs of these socks to Gannett Peak, each pair worn for about 15 miles. All three pairs came back with holes in them. Despite the propensity for holes, the socks are comfy. All in all, i would recommend another sock.

Great Sock

By:

Great fit, breaths well, and dries quick. Doesn't get that funky smell after wearing them for a few days. These may be my most favorite pair of hiking socks and I even wear these to work. I like these more than smartwool.

Comfortable and secure.

By:

Quite a snug fit, just the right amount of padding on the toes and heel, felt very secure. Does the job- long enough for all my hiking boots.

Soft to the touch and ample cushion

By:
March 17, 2010

Got this off of SAC for 1/3 of price. Should have bought another pair esp at that price.

They are not THAT long as others have mentioned, but that depends on what size you get. I have a size 9 foot and got these socks in medium. They go up approx 6" from my heal which is a good distance if you are wearing boots for winter excursions.

They are as thick as my "lightweight hiker" Thorlos and just as comfy. I found it to be even more breathable than my Thorlos. I didn't get any blisters.

As someone else already mentioned, the construction and features are like those of other expensive brands.

LOVE 'EM. LOVE 'EM. LOVE 'EM!!!!!

Warm socks

By:
January 23, 2010

These socks were good they served the purpose of keeping our feet dry and warm -however they don't wash well. They get very washed out looking after going thru the washing machine. I wouldn't buy them again because I have two boys and we pass on the socks- just hope they last!

Great socks!

By:
April 27, 2009

Used these socks on packpacking trip this weekend and they were great. Soft and just the right amount of thickness and cushion for my shoe. I would consider this a light/medium sock. In 90 degree heat they dried easily on lunch break. NO BLISTERS even on rocky, steeper trail that I was not really ready for. I did not use a liner sock because there was not enough spare room in my shoe. I purchased the cream so ticks could be spotted easily. Lisa in Maryland

Sooooo Soft

By: Backcountry.com Alumni

It feels like I am wearing cotton (merino wool) balls on my feet. I do agree with the other review that "they are a little thick" than what I consider a light hiker to be.
